Cultural revolution

When Woo's Christian parents were faced with persecution from the Cultural Revolution, his family fled to Hong Kong when he was five years old.

That would mean that Woo left around 51. Isn't the Cultural Revolution generally dated from around 65 or 66? I think it suffices to say that his parents were persecuted by the Communist government, which, being Christian, was possible long before the Cultural Revolution. --69.143.128.152 10:59, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

POV

I love John Woo, but much of this article feels far too POV. Is "The Killer" really considered "the perfect action film" by anyone other than fans? Who has determined that "Broken Arrow" was "a deeply disappointing film that lacked Woo's trademark style?" By what standards is "Face/Off" "the perfect American vehicle for Woo?" And while it certainly did not turn a profit, I feel it is stretch to claim "Paycheck" was a "disastrous failure." --Feitclub 21:06, Sep 11, 2004 (UTC)

I like most of your changes, but I feel "mixed reviews" is unfair to Face/Off. I remember seeing it on several "best of 1997" lists, including Time Magazine. 40 of 43 reviews on Rottentomatoes.com are positive. "Mixed reviews" implies a 50/50 situation with no consensus, like Passion of the Christ. I'm going to edit that.

NPOV?

I would have to agree that most of the article seems to glorify Woo, but perhaps it is justified considering he has made a great impact on both Chinese and American film making. Perhaps the use of the word "perfect" can be avoided or strictly attributed to fan reviews. ~ Wave of Mutilation 04:27, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

This article should be checked by some uninterested party about NPOV. I am a big fan of Woo myself, but the article does not seem to be in keeping with Wikipedia policies. There are too many sections that sound like a biographical essay as opposed to an encylopedia entry, like "it was three long years" "allowed Woo to do what he did best" "Upping the ante with an all out action film" Since the article is also unsourced, the article as written can be viewed as an opinion or film criticism as opposed to an encylopedia entry to learn more about a major director of the late 20th century.
