Criticism needs sources too[edit]

Another editor is upset at the cost of this airport relative to its use. That criticism needs to be cited with reliable sources just as any other information is. White 720 (talk) 04:02, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

apparent error in criticism[edit]

It says it was "built" to benefit John Murtha, chairman of the House Appropriations committee. This is incorrect on two counts. First, John Murtha is the chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, not the Appropriations Committee itself (that position is currently held by David Obey). He wasn't even in that position until 2006 when Democrats took control of the House.

Also, how can it have been built to benefit him in that position when it was built in 1948 when he was only 16 years old? He wasn't in Congress until 1974.

This criticism section needs some major revision and clarification. Also, I presume from what I said that the airport must have been renamed after him at some point. What year that happened should probably be in the article.

Unfortunately, this still isn't clarified. An article about this airport is a top story in Yahoo News today, and that article also implies that this airport didn't exist before Murtha. Clearly this is not the case, but the article only briefly mentions it was opened in the 1940s. Moncrief (talk) 16:20, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bias all over this article[edit]

Go read the Blair Count Airport's article. It is not at all biased. I mention this because the only place that airport flies to is to Johnstown. The whole system of small airports is a mess, but we can't just point out one of them and say it's because of Murtha that one stays open. I've fixed the article a tad bit, but it needs more work. devtrash (talk) 00:27, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No ALTOONA flights.[edit]

Who needs to come back to Johnstown from Washington just to get eclipsed to Altoona and have to wait 30 mins on the ground there before landing in Johnstown PA? That's just stupid. If United Airlines can't service JST properly, then perhaps someone else will, who may serve PIT or PHL. Are there that many people who just have to go to Washington DC from here, but want to have to stop at Altoona coming back? (as if the plane was a bus) If I wanted to have to go to Altoona from Washington, I could take an actual bus! It's only about 180 miles. United can't operate a non stop flight to Johnstown PA? I bet someone that flies from Pittsburgh could.

Oh, and why don't Camtran go anywhere near JST? For public transportation, that's just plain weird. What are people supposed to do? Are they supposed to go to the Galleria mall, and walk to the airport, hiking up and over the mountains "draggin along their big leather suitcase, and their garment bag, their tenor saxaphone, and their 12 pound bowling ball[1]"? I guess it could be considered an adventure in the summer time, if people planned a camping event before their plane departure perhaps a day or so in advance. In the winter, it would not even be possible at all. We all know there's no such things as safe sidewalks here. In the winter, you break your legs walking around this town, falling into every pothole in the ice as you can. Just imagine what it would be like to hike up all those mountains to get to the Johnstown airport from Galleria Mall where u get dumped off at on the bus! - (the hospital needs to have a location in the mountains!) Perhaps DPW could give out free tents and firewood to those indigent persons in need in Johnstown to support their adventure to the airport. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.140.83.104 (talk) 00:48, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
