Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Kano (US rapper) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 02:05, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 3 July 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. (closed by non-admin page mover) Vpab15 (talk) 18:19, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– Current primary topic (the city in Nigeria) is well short of a majority of pageviews. Per WP:NOPRIMARY, the disambiguation page should be at the main topic. Pageviews here 162 etc. (talk) 20:42, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nigerian cities seem to use this format; see Gombe, Gombe and Oyo, Oyo. Kano, Kano State seems fine to me, but the disambiguation should be consistent. 162 etc. (talk) 15:51, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support clearly not the primary topic by usage the character has 123,386 views and the musician has 31,179 compared to 38,180 for this one. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:19, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Kano (city), which I think is the best option here. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:00, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Much like the above, this suggestion goes against the established precedent of using the state name to disambiguate Nigerian cities. 162 etc. (talk) 15:35, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help move protected page[edit]

Please help move Kano per above RM. The page is move protected. Thanks. Vpab15 (talk) 18:26, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. There does not seem to be a consensus as to what new title to give to the article about the city, but I have gone for Kano (city), as that seems to be the suggestion which makes it clearest what the article is about. Obviously that can be changed if there is consensus to do so. JBW (talk) 22:20, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Vpab15: why did you close the RM in the first place, when there's clearly no consensus yet about what the new title should be? Lennart97 (talk) 08:15, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is a clear consensus to move, so I chose the one I thought was best per WP:NOGOODOPTIONS. Kano, Kano follows the same pattern as other state capitals in Nigeria per WP:PLACEDAB. I guess Kano (city) is ok for now, a new RM can be created if needed. Vpab15 (talk) 11:23, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Although I'm neutral on Kano, Kano vs Kano (city), I think relisting would have been the proper option, or at the least a clear closing rationale. But that doesn't matter now I guess, if someone feels strongly against the current name a new RM is indeed an option. Lennart97 (talk) 11:36, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I object to Kano (city). The RM closer did not indicate a desire to move to this title. The title also contradicts WP:PLACEDAB, which states that when (disambiguation) tags are required for places in (...) Nigeria, (...) use the name of the state (...) if the place lies within a single such entity. 162 etc. (talk) 16:07, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd like to dispute the action that was taken, it can be done on the talk page of the admin that took it (and then further at WP:AN if you're unsatisfied with the response you get). If you'd like to propose a new title for this or any other page, this can be done through opening a new page move discussion. If you'd like a random admin to just sweep in and press the undo button on his colleague's edit, then I'm sorry but it's just not going to happen. With that, I'm closing the help request you reopened as there's really nothing more to do here. 78.28.44.31 (talk) 15:47, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW: Please see above. 162 etc. (talk) 16:34, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've seen the above, but I'm not sure why it should concern me. I came here in response to a request for administrator help for a page move from "Kano (disambiguation)" to "Kano". There was clearly consensus for that move, so I made the move. Unfortunately that involved moving the existing article "Kano" to some other title, and there was not yet consensus as to what that other title should be. I considered declining the request for the move until that other issue was settled, but it seemed to me more constructive to do the part of the job which had been agreed, leaving the other part for further discussion if anyone wished to pursue it. With that in mind I moved "Kano" to a provisional title, and mentioned that it was subject to revision. If there's consensus that I shouldn't have done the one move until the other one was settled then obviously the moves can be reverted pending further discussion. If not, then discussion as to the best destination for the original "Kano" can continue. Either way I don't see anything that needs to involve me. However, if I've missed something relevant then please let me know. JBW (talk) 13:43, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
