Discussion

[edit]

Could it be that Finley sampled some Anne Clark - stuff? Or the other way round? When listening to "tales of taboo" (with "Drop that ghetto blaster" in it) it sounded like Anne Clark at the beginning and in the course of the whole song. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.5.252.247 (talk) 04:41, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe also mentionable: She played Mom in Richard Kern's famous short film "You Killed Me First" (with David Wojnarowicz playing Dad). Probably not quite the Norman Rockwell kind of family that Sen. Jesse Helms would like to have depicted. --217.85.38.99 (talk) 12:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Review of article: This article has a decent amount of background about her childhood. This article needs to delve deeper into the "why?" for a lot of the facts that are stated. Finley blatantly uses extreme performances for a reason, and that reason needs to be clearly outlined in a better manner. A huge portion why she does performances is to call the audience to action. Also, the first citation [1] is linked to an article that no longer exists. 1: Why is there not more on her removal from the NEA? 2. Why is there no "big picture" reasons behind why she performs in an extreme manner?

@Vroney18: An empty citation might be found by searching at archive.org. Unless there are sources on the questions that you pose, there is a danger that the article becomes too essayistic. It has recently been tagged with this and rightfully so. This is not an academic article but an encyclopaedic entry.Large parts of this article are unreferenced and it currently reads like a CV. Personal History

[edit]

Admittedly what I am about to write has a nonflattering view, but more information is needed on her personal background and upbringing from infancy/early childhood to early adulthood. This is a person who has never known hunger, has never known want, and does not know that she does not know--the quintessence of a spoiled child. The bulk of this article reads like an obsequious homage written by fawning acolytes. God forbid there should be any counterpoint; if any more sugar were heaped on her in this article, one could go into insulin shock simply by reading it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.98.224.68 (talk) 19:27, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Holy shit dude! You write like a shitty college person. Somebody should fix this article but not you! 71.59.246.231 (talk) 15:43, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review

[edit]

I believe that you should add a picture of Karen Finley and/or her works. I think that would be a great addition to this article; I am stating this because if I were to read this, I would go on google and google her name because I would be trying to put a face to her name. I think the Biography is a great section. However, I do believe that it should be put into smaller sections because it is extremely long. It could be placed into sections that indicate her education, personal life/experiences, rewards that she has received etc. In the beginning it talks about a few of her forms of activisms, and it is stated that the black Sheep is one of her most known works. Maybe adding a year next to that statement would be great or even including the poem or a picture of the poem on the wikipedia page. Also for the influences section, it would be interesting if her relative was also one of her biggest influencers so if you were to find information on that it would be interesting to include. If I find any other beneficial sources or if I have any other ideas, I will place them under this paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Londralondris (talkcontribs) 15:56, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Avery statement in an article about a living person must be sourced. I removed an unsourced paragraph, but there is much more that must either be sourced or removed. The paragraph I removed is promotional as well as unsourced,, so I see no point in trying to source it. Many articles on artists do have that sort of promotional material, but that is not a reason to keep it in here , but to remove it wherever else it exists also.
