The name means "Charles' Bath" in Czech. The first word is a possessive form of given name Karel (Charles), the second part lázně is a pluralized form of a noun with meaning of "spa" (i.e. spa town) or "baths" (plural of bath). In its singular form lázeň this is a slightly archaic-sounding word meaning "bath"; the meaning "spa" (regardless of count) is present only in plural. Despite these subtle grammar oddities the most appropriete translation is "bath" (sg.). I presume the name derives from location in vicinity of the Charles Bridge. If so, the indirect namesake would be Charles IV, a 14th century monarch who has been held in high esteem by the Czechs even today. Anyway, regardless of its usage by the club itself, the correct Czech spelling is Karlovy lázně (i.e. no capital L in the second word). --Miaow Miaow (talk) 08:38, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
