Birth year
[edit]http://www.bt.no/php/skattesok/sammenlign.php?id=2706253&navn=TOM+CATO+VISNES&compare=1
This - which appears to be a profile of King - states that his birth year is 1974. I decided to put this in (although I understand that it was removed due to being unsourced) as I felt this was trustworthy, indeed it got the birth years of other Norwegian black metal musicians correct. I understand that this however, may also merit original research. But if I may ask, should we include the birth year based on that result? Dark Prime (talk) 16:44, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- It is obviously the correct person, so I don't see why it shouldn't be included. The link above is to his tax details from 2006, from official Norwegian tax listings, which should be as good a source as any.Bulgakoff (talk) 18:12, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Satanism
[edit]Due to this edit, I must ask for a section on King ov Hell’s beliefs; I actually didn’t know he “flip-flopped on the matter” and have only known claims he was a Satanist (and obviously not only me), not having read that many interviews with him anyway. --217/83 06:38, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- If you go through the revision history you will see there was a "relationships with the broader metal scene" section where it went into some scrutiny on his beliefs as well as a few of his contradicting interviews (among criticisms in general by black metal musicians I should note). This was taken down after a user took it up with the admins in April this year, and although I declined to futher engage over the section I did nevertheless attempt to respond concerning statements he had proceeded to make about myself in the same post, four months after the incident. This was closed as the user had not been active since the time of the incident (April) and since then I have decided not to press it further given this lack of activity. This might provide some perspective concerning his beliefs and (if I should say) his overall credibility in the "black metal scene", but as I say in the link provided I will elaborate on the concerned subject matter as need be (as per such google searches, for instance). Dark Prime (talk) 09:01, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just looked through the revision history and will probably edit the article soon. --217/83 21:30, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Well, it took me a while. Thanks for that edit which finally pushed me to do it. --217/83 15:17, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- I have translated the passage for the German article. Of course, I mentioned that I took it from here and that I have to thank you. --217/83 22:05, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- No problem, and thanks to you for your substantial and well-informed contributions to black metal articles on wikipedia (particularly with regards to the ideological crudeness in Euronymous' day with repressive sentiments such as that he harboured). I feel the affluence of sources concerning King ov Hell's relations makes the inclusion of these various opinions worthwhile - in light of his historic pandering to the media with constant (and not terribly consistent) fabrications of facts to the degree it has involved disparaging others and further distortion of facts to such purposes in the relentless manner seen between 2007 and 2010 - and in the spirit of other biographical articles on wikipedia such as (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Teresa#Criticism) as opposed to crude manichean representations such as "because if we had to record this album with Infernus in guitar, it would be more sloppy…" (King ov Hell interview November 2009 http://www.metal-temple.com/site/catalogues/entry/musicians/king_ov_hell_ov_hell.htm, although interestingly he also claims to have no interest in badmouthing same subject in public in this interview http://www.rocknballs.com/?choix=interviews&old=interviews&id_interview=27#english, reaction to this here http://www.getphpbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=234&sid=45db0ee345867583909f86b43d51a069&mforum=gorgorothoffici). Dark Prime (talk) 10:56, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Great to see someone appreciating my contributions again; you may have seen what bullshit I have to face on some other talk pages. The reactions on the Gorgoroth forum are worth reading, too (I’m no forum maniac, but I think this would have turned out more extreme on many other forums). --217/83 15:22, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thought I'd just post something typical of the sort of google searches brought up a year ago by the user DataBasss. Although I'm not really proactive these days with wikipedia or bm forums (and therefore my ineffectiveness in engaging over this matter a year ago), I nevertheless remain an interested observer so I will react on wikipedia every now and then to vandal attacks and other dubious edits etc. I've seen some of the discussion threads (notably the ideology one) and I appreciate how you've synthesised your sources, especially primary ones such as interviews which undermine misconceptions about pagan and individualist consensuses given the influence of these players like Euronymous in the Norwegian scene. Dark Prime (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Which was of course not seen by those who would insult me as a “POV-pushing” “genre warrior” (and then telling me about civility). By the way, I wouldn’t think of “ideological crudeness” in the case of Euronymous (death worship and praising oppressive systems which brought death is rather logical), this is rather the case with people like Garm of Ulver (same as King when it came to Satanism around 1994), Varg Vikernes (there is an interesting weblog about his various lies) and others; okay, the exact quote was “ideological crudeness in Euronymous' day” not “ideological crudeness in Euronymous' statements” (those who would insult me as a “POV-pushing” “genre warrior” would also turn that against you and “synthesised your sources” against me in the sense of the synth guideline). --217/83 09:29, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
