Best Known For[edit]

Please do not remove Lost Girl from the summary. Lost Girl is broadcast internationally and is in fact one of the things Ksenia is best known for now, regardless of whether she is known for it in your locale. Caben42 (talk) 00:01, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it a wig?[edit]

I like her as an actress, but she always looks like she is wearing a wig. Is she or is it just her hair? Latvian-Canadian or Russo-Canadian?[edit]

Soviet-Canadian? Lol. In English, "Russian" can stand for a great many veeeery different things:

nationality: Rossiya ("Russia", in fact NOT named after Russians and spelled differently; comprises many ethnic groups, with varying amounts of ethnic tensions, sometimes very high)
ethnicity: Russkie (the ethnic Russians... many in Russia )
language: native and/or primary speakers of Russkiy, the regional language originally coming from the ethnic Russians (but often the primary tongue for people of other backgrounds, whether mixed and melting-potted or not)
nationality: ex-Soviet in general (including countries and groups often currently at odds with Rossiya the country and/or Russkie the ethnic group
place of birth: RSFSR (the Russia Republic, a province of the Soviet Union & still named after Rossiya the country with an O, not Russkie the people with a U)
AND/OR: former citizenship or residence in any of the above

example: this editor could be considered all-around Russian, being Russian-speaking, Russian-born of a Russian parent as listed in a Russian birth certificate & a holder of a Russian passport...BUT his mother's Soviet birth certificate issued in the RSFSR lists "ethnicity: Jewish mother, Ukrainian father" and she considers herself a Russo-American Jew. YET, when all things are said and done, said editor calls himself a Ukrainian Soviet expat (though more often than not - saying that in Russian)

As to Ksenia Solo's background - her fluency in Russian despite being a North American immigrant originally from Latvia and born just 4 years before it split off from the USSR suggests she's at least half NON-Latvian in ethnicity, which may or may not mean part Russian, but almost guarantees non-pure-Latvianness (Russian being the lingua franca of the Soviet Empire and mixed households therein)... Ksenia is Russian-ish, but also "generic Soviet", and likely her real first name but shedding no light on ethnicity... Solo is almost certainly not a birth name, but whether it's an English-language screen name or an anglicized last name seems unknown. If anglicized, it could be a cropped Jewish name (Solomonova/Solomonovitz/etc. - and Russian would almost certainly be the household language of a Jewish family in Latvia) so she could even be anywhere from 0% to 100% Russian, 0-50% Latvian, 0 - 100% Jewish, and UP TO 100% OTHER.

Btw, she seems to dye her hair and wear heavy makeup w/ tinted contacts, so that "other" range contains near-infinite possibilities. Latvia's Baltic Sea access means her parents could be sailors, port workers or military personnel transferred from anywhere in the USSR... she could even be mostly Asian or Middle Eastern. Another (action) picture[edit]

There needs to be an action picture as she becomes even more popular. Her role in TURN and in her interviews, she appears as a blonde. When asked about the concluding episode (this Monday) she says you can Google the ending since it is history, but just to say, "We're going out with a bang."
