Don't agree with merge to Winkfield...

[edit]

This article is about a school that was founded in 1860, is still going strong, and educated two members of the Royal Family, not to mention other notable people (see alumni). A merge to Winkfield is not logical as Winkfield is a far shorter article. It will also make it awkward to follow links from other articles with a Lambrook link (a reader would have to look through the Winkfield article to find Lambrook). Can this proposal please be removed? Nick Michael (talk) 19:13, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately notability is not inherited, so just because a couple of members of the Royal Family attended does not make the subject notable. If you feel that it is notable then I'd suggest you find some references to support the assertions in the text. Primary schools are generally considered non-notable on Wikipedia and usually are merged into the article for the locale where the school is located. Fmph (talk) 20:01, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see what you mean in the notability guidelines for schools. But it'd be a shame IMO: there are an awful lot of English prep schools which have a long and interesting history. I'll still try to improve the references in an effort to save the article. Nick Michael (talk) 23:09, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I quite agree that this article should not be merged. There is far too much content to make a merge practical. As there is no consensus for a merge I will remove the merge tag. Dahliarose (talk) 11:37, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Paedophilia

[edit]

Much as I am sympathetic to the edit concerning the paedophile master [1], I do not think Wikipedia is the place for the editor to voice his or her opinions on what the school should do about it. It should really be limited to a mention, with the citation given. However, I don't want to embroil myself in a sensitive subject, so I seek other opinions before touching this. Nick Michael (talk) 21:40, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Of course anyone who is not a sociopath or a pedophile themselves feels empathy for those victims, but when discussing such issues in an encyclopedia article we must be very careful only to reflect what the sources say about it. Opinions, suggestions, or original research should never be in articles. I have therefore edited the section to reflect only what is properly verified by the given source. Thank you: it needed the firm hand of an admin to deal with that... Nick Michael (talk) 07:22, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lambrook or Lambrook School?

[edit]

The school's own web site is vague on the matter. The brand is Lambrook, but the name in the page footer on the web site and on the contact page is Lambrook School. On the basis that the school itself states in its postal address that the word school is part of the title I propose to move the article to Lambrook School after giving a period for editors to reach a consensus. List of headmasters

[edit]

On 29 August 2022, the list of headmasters was deleted [2] with the reason as "remove mostly unsourced information. The list of headmasters can go as Wikipedia is not a listing of non-notable people, and beyond being headmaster, no indication that any of these are notable is offered." However the list was perfectly well sourced, and moreover WP guidlines say: "Notability guidelines do not usually apply to content within articles or lists, The criteria applied to the creation or retention of an article are not the same as those applied to the content inside it. The notability guideline does not apply to the contents of articles." Many if not most of the other Berkshire Prep Schools have their list of headmasters (Eagle House School, Papplewick School, Newbold School, St Andrew's School, Pangbourne, St George's School, Windsor Castle, St Piran's (school)]], St John's Beaumont School) without their necessarily being "notable". I am for restoring the list of Lambrook School headmasters, but unlike whoever previously deleted it, I seek the opinion of others before acting. Nick Michael (talk) 16:18, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
