Bloated title, tips of icebergs, etc.[edit]

Why call this [takes deep breath] "List of awards and nominations received by Savage Garden"? Isn't it obviously a "list"? Why not just "Awards and nominations received by Savage Garden"?
I love WP, but it has many such patterns of verbal bloat and redundancy—for example: • Gratuitous repetition of the topic name (rather than its pronoun equivalent)
• Reference to things being "located at…"
• "of the's" (e.g. "assets of the company" vs. "the company's assets")
• Passive vs. active voice
It's not just body text; it's in templates, too. Example:
"[name] is a surname. Notable persons with the surname include…”’'
(…rather than just "Notable people with it include…")
I'm just getting started. See my edits for the (usually repetitious—but hey, I don't mind) details.
Wackily, pattern-matching scripts could quickly find and fix most of these excesses (with human supervision, of course).
In reference works, "less is more". WP has many, many more words than it, or anyone, needs. I trim the fat where I can, but I'm just one obsessive editor with limited powers.
How does one gain traction for the project's general good? I haven't time to find out, or to engage in political tussles over such obvious opportunities for improvement. If you have better ideas and/or more pull within the WP pantheon, feel free to let me know. – AndyFielding (talk) 08:58, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
