I wonder if the section that states "The Labour Party held Liverpool Garston from the 1983 general election until the constituency was abolished. Prior to that time the constituency was a fairly safe Conservative seat until Labour gained it in 1974, with the Conservatives regaining it in 1979 for the last time.", requires a bit of clarification. As noted in the results section the 1983 Labour win was classed as a hold due to the fact that the constituency had undergone substantial boundary changes which meant Labour would have won it in 1979 had the constituency been fought under the post 83 boundaries Indeed The Times Guide to the House of Commons for 1983 on p280 suggests a Labour Majority of over 5000 on in 1979 would have been the result. Also the sitting MP Malcolm Thornton moved to fight Crosby which was considered a better bet for the Conservatives, despite having been lost by the party in a by-election. The seat article also notes the wards in the constituency altered in 1983 dew to the new boundaries. It is worth noting for instance Aigburth, which moved to Mossley Hill, had always been in the Garston seat prior to this. There is no doubt that the Conservative share in the vote collapsed in Liverpool in the 1970s, but I think it could be clearer in this statement that it was boundary changes which moved it from being a marginal to a Labour inclined seat.
