Untitled[edit]

I guess that the "peacock" tag referred to the former second paragraph. I have rewritten this, and removed the tag. If the tag referred to something else, or if you feel the article still needs work, feel free restore the tag. Will Orrick (talk) 16:31, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scientific career: China visit[edit]

I have changed the date of the China visit back to 1979. Both the Wallace reference and the Alquist Medal citation give the 1979 date, which also seems more consistent with the date of the Second Communiqué. If the anonymous editor has inside information or a source for the 1978 date, would she/he please elaborate? Will Orrick (talk) 01:52, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Emergency Preparedness[edit]

Dr Jones gave a presentation recently on the need for preparation in Southern California. — Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:48, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[1] "The annual get-together of American Geophysical Union was held this year in San Francisco. The irony of the venue for seismologist Lucy Jones’ talk Sunday to the American Geophysical Union — “Imagine America Without Los Angeles” — was doubtless not lost on its audience. Jones is known to Southern Californians as “the earthquake lady” for her TV appearances. “I mean, she has fans! Who has fans?” said the moderator. Jones said she chose her title “thinking it would appeal to a San Francisco audience.” ... "Panic is not the answer. Hard work is. And there are some obvious vulnerabilities. Jones notes in particular that two-thirds of the fiber-optic cables connecting Southern California cross the San Andreas, as do all the natural gas lines. The first fix she suggests, and one that is financially doable right now: the gas lines. Next, everything else. “We’re all in this together,” Jones concluded. And together we ought to heed her words." — Charles Edwin Shipp (talk)

Book[edit]

Under personal life it mentions her plans to write a book. The book is now out "The Big Ones". I feel however that this should probably go under her career heading. Mrericsully (talk) 17:11, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
