The result of the move request was: consensus not to move the page to the proposed title at this time, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 11:13, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That might be but the institution itself (in English and French) uses the full capitalisation. The IFRE also capitalises Française. The nickname for the institution is Maison Française. I'd say in this case it should be Française. Gaia Octavia AgrippaTalk 10:40, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. The very page you cite is titled "Maison française d'Oxford | IFRE". There's clearly a mini-conflict going on over there by people who follow French rules, and people who play fast-and-loose with them for "Marketing and PR Capitalization Purposes". WP doesn't do the latter. Actual usage varies widely. Some French sources mimic the over-capitalization, but many do not [1], [2], etc. The number-one rule of MOS:CAPS and MOS:TM is do not apply capitalization unless independent reliable sources do so consistently, which is obviously not the case here. If we capitalize this, you can expect next week for people to demand to capitalize Académie française on no basis than that it'll better match English pattens and that they can find, somewhere, someone capitalizing it. WP takes a systemic not random and willy-nilly approach to these things. — SMcCandlish☏¢ 😼 16:25, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: French isn't capitalized by English-language rules. See MOS:FOREIGN and the additional guidance cross-referenced there (e.g., from MOS:TITLES: "Capitalization in foreign-language titles varies, even over time within the same language; generally, retain the style of the original for modern works, and follow the usage in English-language reliable sources for historical works." While written about titles of works, it also applies to other proper names, and the advice should probably be relocated to MOS:FOREIGN or MOS:CAPS.) — SMcCandlish☏¢ 😼 16:17, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose – When an article title is not in English, we should abide by the spelling rules of that language. French does only capitalizes proper nouns, so we have "Oxford" but "française". — JFGtalk 21:08, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
