Purpose of disambiguation[edit]

I've just restored to this page multiple deleted links that belong here. The purpose of a disambiguation page is to aid navigation to the page that a reader is looking for. It does no service to such readers to have to work out which link will take them to another page containing the link they are looking for. There is absolutely no reason why all of the different pages that 'manifold' may refer to should not be on this disambiguation page.

It's worth reading Wikipedia:Disambiguation for the theory of disambiguation - particularly noting that WP:DDAB is clear that double disambiguation is rare on Wikipedia and only applies when one of the disambiguated terms itself requires further disambiguation. This sometimes happens with placenames. Short, clear instructions for dab pages can be found at Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts. --RexxS (talk) 07:10, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This has been reverted without discussion. It is clear that Manifold (engineering) is not a dab page. --RexxS (talk) 03:21, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Certainly, one needs a thorough familiarising with WP:MOSDAB before subtleties like including (or not) sub-bulleted (potential WP:PTM) items. It can be seen both ways, but on a small dab it may be worth inclusion. There was certainly bigger MOSDAB fish to fry (although of lesser importance to readers) - like removing "The" to start entries, not piping to change the visible link, and also the exception - to pipe for style.  Done.
