Pipe or unpipe West Germany[edit]

Readers don't have to click "Germany" to go to West Germany. They should simply read "West Germany" instead. Why piping "West Germany"? --George Ho (talk) 23:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. France and Italy don't get a link, why should Germany? West Germany is no place where you can be born. The pipe has been offered as a compromise, see my talk archive. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:38, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why can Angela Merkel article show "West Germany", while can't other German people's biographies? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gh87 in the public computer (talkcontribs) 17:44, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I better don't say how I find "West Germany (now Germany)", as in her article, regarding Hamburg which most readers may know without any addition. It's also a nice illustration of the myth that the East/West helps to understand the political context, because you have to read further to understand that she grew up in the eastern part. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:42, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What about Oliver Pocher and Kurt Raab? --George Ho (talk) 03:53, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
