Versions[edit]

Is anyone able to give some input on the number of motronic versions that have been produced? The article is currently very 1.x-centric. I have added sections for the motronic systems I am familiar with, however I do not know the history well enough to be able to merge the beginning section of the article together with my own edits. Would greatly appreciate the input of someone who knows more about this.StealthFox 23:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Obst's book "Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management" mentions ML.3 as incorporating knock sensing and startup diagnostics, but I don't know much more than that, unfortunately.1292simon (talk) 09:24, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Motronic 1.1 & 1.3[edit]

BMW applications of 1.1 and 1.3 did not include knock sensing (Charles Obst "Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management"). So I revised to say it only applies to PSA engines. Obst says knock sensing was incorporated in the ECU for the L3.x, maybe PSA used an external knock sensing system with Motronic 1.x? 1292simon (talk) 08:48, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

VW use?[edit]

Right ... I had a 1990/91 vintage VW Polo which featured a "Mono-Motronic" TBI system, and I'm led to believe it was fairly popular thru the early 90s in that car (in 1.0 and 1.3L forms), and possibly in at least the Golf as well (1.3~1.6), mirroring its use in the Opels... in both cases, also alongside some kind of multi-point injection system in the higher tune models, though this may not have been Motronic.

However I don't know if I have any materials to back it up :(

I sold the car in question more than 7 years ago, now, and all I have literature-wise from back then is the owner manual and a Haynes workshop book, either of which may or may not mention it. It's unlikely to give a version number or any really meaty details though.

If so... anyone have any suggestions where it might be scraped from in citeable form?

Similarly, it was followed by a 1.6 Opel/Vauxhall Astra, also with some kind of single-point / TBI system, though I don't know if it was Motronic or even Bosch. This data may also be in the handbook and workshop manual that I have hanging around? It did have the coding plug... and I kind of wish I'd known that removing it would default to a 98-RON setting, as it was only marked for 95-RON (the default around here...) and 91~93-RON (which would involve me driving 1000+ miles in a straight line to encounter)... there must have been a pair of diodes plus resistors in the cap, as you pulled it off and turned it 180 degrees before reconnecting in order to change the setting. Though I never bothered to try, the low octane setting supposedly reduced the maximum performance so to avoid knocking on poorer quality fuel; the car was much in need of a few extra BHP... could have been that removing the plug entirely and running it on Super (97~100-RON) might have granted that? I did a quick web search on Polo mono-motronic and unfortunately none of the results were verifiable. Like you say, a workshop manual should have it, or maybe there's a photo somewhere of the ECU in a Polo, this should also serve as good proof.
