GUS/Gus naming convention[edit]

Should the name given to the train's computer system be capitalized? In dialogue, it's referenced as if it were a personal name, but whenever that name appears on screen on the computer monitors in the lab section, it is in all-caps, implying an acronym. Once the train's "facade" is dropped and the lab is revealed, there is a computer station on one side of the room, with multiple displays and keyboards. The central image on the display includes a stylized monocle and, in the upper left corner, the word/name "GUS". It's harder to make out on most long shots of the room, but it's clear in at least one closeup of the display. For example, when Professor Moorhouse removes his coat and steps up to the terminal, and again when the Professor asks what would happen if they refused to work. It would be original research to assume that it is an initialism based on a frame-by-frame analysis of the episode. If they didn't make it clear what "GUS" stood for, we should simply treat it as a name. (Contrast this to the Library episodes, where CAL was clearly called out as an initialism and later explained in-show directly). Knowing Moffet, we might be able to come back to address this (which would be fine to do if GUS is used as an initialism later) but for now, we should treat it as a name. --MASEM (t) 14:01, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
