I just made the Template:Mario Golf series and was wondering if this game should be included in the template. Officially, it doesn't share the Mario Golf name, but it does star Mario, so I'm not too sure... - Hbdragon88 23:52, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In this game, Princess Peach was referred to Princess Toadstool in the manual for the version outside Japan. --PJ Pete

Princess Daisy[edit]

Although Mario's love interest is Princess Peach, which she's her caddy in this game, Princess Daisy, who is Luigi's caddy, is Luigi's love interest, since this game. --PJ Pete

Merge[edit]

Yes, merge this into NES Open Tournament Golf, at least you don't lose any important information. --PJ Pete

Dubious[edit]

the bit about the NAACP critisizing the game because all of the caddies are african american appears very dubious because as far as I've played through the game none of the game's caddies are african american. the caddies are princess peach and princess daisy who appear to be of european extraction. --Bfarb (talk) 14:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References to Wii Sports Resort Golf[edit]

There is an easter eggs section of the Golf (1984 video game) page that mentions the courses in the Golf NES game being reused in the "Classic" course for Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort golf (should also mention Wii Sports Club). But this page doesn't mention that many of Wii Sports Resort (and Wii Sports Club) "Resort" courses are based on holes from the "Japan" course of NES Open Tournament Golf. These holes are (from the "Resort" course):

  • Hole 2 - Japan 6
  • Hole 3 - Japan 12
  • Hole 4 - Japan 16
  • Hole 5 - Japan 7
  • Hole 6 - Japan 10
  • Hole 7 - Japan 9
  • Hole 9 - Japan 3

There are also three "Special" holes exclusive to Wii Sports Resort that are based on holes in NES Open Tournament Golf's "Japan" and "US" courses:

  • Hole 1 - Japan 2
  • Hole 2 - US 14
  • Hole 3 - US 5

For reference, here are sheets depicting courses for Japan and US in NES Open Tournament Golf. I also used videos to match up the NES holes to the Resort and Special holes in Wii Sports Resort.

AKA Mario Open Golf in Japan[edit]

Dissident93 Would it be helpful for the reader to know that the game was originally titled Mario Open Golf in Japan? I kept the Japanese text as a footnote, but I believe that the idea that the game is considered in the Mario series in its origin country is important to know. What are your thoughts? --Bchill53 (talk) 21:18, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Bchill53: Thinking about it again, but I think you're right. The guideline really just wants non-English characters tucked away, not valid alternative English names. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 21:21, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
