Outside production[edit]

This article ought to mention how much of Nature's programming is produced by outside filmmakers, and also how much is "co-produced" with other broadcasters such as Channel 4. 18.26.0.5 22:35, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

...In addition, one of the big strengths of the series, especially in the first 10 years, was the skill of the writers. I would be greatly appreciative of someone adding who were the primary writers for each of the episodes. They are sorely missed in todays "nature documentaries", which are more just cobbled video galleries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.164.223 (talk) 21:24, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
From the looks of it, most miniseries of the BBC Natural History Unit are among the (re)broadcasts, which are pretty much intended to be visual spectacles (they usually include a 'making of' ten minutes at the end showing how they pulled it off). Perhaps there was original programming in the past, but 'Nature' looks more like regional rebranding of existing content. -- MiG (talk) 11:34, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to George Page?[edit]

I am asking since his page doesn't exist yet. I know towards the end, his voice was strange. I assume his health failed. Will (Talk - contribs) 23:59, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Nature logo.png[edit]

Image:Nature logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Season Numberings[edit]

As of this writing, the season numbers jump from thirty-one (31) to thirty-three (33). Surely thirty-three was meant to be listed as thirty-two (32), right? 96.253.84.38 (talk) 00:07, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I see by the air dates that S32 may simply have been omitted at the time this was written. Here's hoping that that entire season eventually gets documented.

Why are the season numbers off by 1 in the episode numbers? e.g. "My Life as a Turkey" (#2904 - November 16, 2011), from Season 30 (which I have numbered 3004 in my collection), or "An Original DUCKumentary" (#3004 - November 14, 2012), from Season 31 (which I have numbered 3104 in my collection), et al? _ _ Did the people numbering the episodes start with Season 00, or something? Request: Moving the Episodes to another page[edit]

There are so many episodes on the main page that it takes up most of the page. I believe that it's time to move these episodes to a new page. Also, the episodes need to be placed into a table. Yoshiman6464 (talk) 01:16, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I plan to convert the episode list to a table as I complete the references. I'll add descriptions in the process. I agree that the episode list should be a separate page. AspenSavannah (talk) 18:55, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lovejoy listed as creator?[edit]

I see some recent news articles where Lovejoy is interviewed describe him as a co-creator of the series, but the 1985 "Why PBS's `Nature' is so popular in an age of city-dwellers" (by Arthur Unger, in the The Christian Science Monitor, Nov. 26, 1985) describes him as "principal technical adviser". (Page was executive editor. Most articles ProQuest turns up say David Heeley was executive producer. One called Page "executive producer", but given the others, I assume this is an error.) The current page for Lovejoy himself says "As often misassociated, he is not the founder but served as an advisor in the early days of the public television series NATURE, which he's no longer part of the creative team". Should Lovejoy be removed as a co-creator here, or should the sentence on Lovejoy's page be changed? What counts as "creator"? The NY Times obituary for Page, "George Page Dies at 71; Creator and Host of PBS's 'Nature'", says:

"It was George's idea to put on a weekly natural history series where the subject matter was far more esoteric than anything that had ever been on TV," said Fred Kaufman, executive producer of "Nature" for the last 15 years. "It was very different to go for up to two minutes without any narration, just the sound and the beauty of the images."

and doesn't mention Lovejoy. —Undomelin (talk) 22:12, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Split out the list of episodes?![edit]

Is there any reason not to just split out the 'Episodes' section into a separate List of Nature episodes?! 533 episodes over 36 seasons seems like an excellent candidate of a Split out!! --IJBall (contribstalk) 21:47, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it! AspenSavannah (talk) 17:35, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Probably, but outside the infobox and "In other media" section (and a sligtly smaller lead) this would be the same article :) --Gonnym (talk) 08:17, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the parent article here could use expansion, no doubt. But that doesn't detract from the fact that the episode list needs to go to a dedicated List of Episodes article... --IJBall (contribstalk) 12:02, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. If nothing else, it's hard to legibly develop an article that's dominated by a list. Duplicated the intro paragraph, apart from the stupid links. — kwami (talk) 05:10, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Awards Outdated[edit]

Hi, some things on this page are outdated. I work for Nature so cannot edit myself, but you can refer to our most recent season press release for info about recent awards, etc. https://www.thirteen.org/13pressroom/press-release/nature-celebrates-40-years-with-new-season-featuring-covid-19-lockdown-bee-watching-and-animal-favorites-wednesdays-at-8-p-m-beginning-october-20-on-pbs/

Also, Thomas Lovejoy should not be listed as a creator. Happy to go into more detail about that if needed. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unicorndragonsurvivor (talkcontribs) 19:34, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
