Move article to 'KiwiRail AK class carriage'[edit]

because the carriage design is commissioned by KiwiRail, not NZR, which no longer exists. If you disagree, please consider renaming the article KiwiRail to NZR, and you'll see what I mean.Nankai (talk) 03:15, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This article is named NZR AK class carriage not to indicate the organisation that commissioned or owns the subject (vehicles) but rather for consistency with other similar articles and for compliance with the Manual of style. To quote from the MOS:

Also note the use of "NZR" as a disambiguator to distinguish New Zealand classes from similarly named classes in other countries.

Therefore, to rename the article as suggested would be inappropriate and in this context "NZR" should be seen as a generic term rather than a specific reference to the (now non-existent) NZGR. The article itself makes clear and specific reference to the relevant organisations involved in the commissioning, construction, and ownership of these vehicles so there is no need to rename the article to establish this. Any common alternative designations, such as has been suggested here, can be taken care of though redirection as per WP:REDIR. — Matthew25187 (talk) 06:19, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. The renaming would be pointless, and mean this article is not in line with other WP articles. --LJ Holden 01:35, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
On further reflection, perhaps we should consider dropping the 'NZR' classification and replacing it simply with "New Zealand"? --LJ Holden 03:49, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Number of cars[edit]

How is there 17 AK cars? If there are 11 coaches, four cafe cars, and three luggage vans, that's 18. The table in the article lists 12 coaches, making it 19. I am ignoring the AKV cars as they were converted from generator vans, but if the six current and future AKVs are included, we're up to 25. The numbers don't seem right.Mirza Ahmed (talk) 08:06, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
