I was unaware women received Knighthods, especially in the Commonwealth of Nations and British Empire. My understanding is that they recieved a Damehood. Though reading the article I suggest renaming the article something like; Orders of Chivalry specific to women. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 05:47, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In looking at the interwiki links three languages use something like the German Damenorden which if I remember correctly I have seen rendered as Ladies Order. In Italian they render the article name closer to this one Ordini cavallerschi femminili, which could translate as 'Female orders of knighthood or Female orders of chivalry. I am personally most inclined to use Ladies Order, but upon examination we have been using a category on Wikipedia called Category:Orders of knighthood for women since 2008. If we want to build consensus to change the article title, we probably need to reexamine the category.
In the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries, a Damehood is the equivalent of a Knighthood. I would be inclined for renaming, but believe that Damehood is a little to narrow as it primarily refers to the UK et al. Most of these orders were not an equivalency but orders solely for ladies. Ladies Order may be too vague, but Orders of chivalry for women, may fit the bill. EricSerge (talk) 12:33, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are quite right, Damehood is rather narrow. I believe a consensus on changing the name to 'Orders of chivalry for women' and for the category since 'Orders of knighthood for women' is at least in the English language inaccurate.
