I'm changing the first published date to 1973 - I own a copy and it says first published by Timescape books, 1973. I would be happy if someone can provide some references. DarkseidX (talk) 17:23, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I´m sorry, but my copy says 1983. You can also look it up on the "Poul Anderson" entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.110.99.237 (talk) 14:39, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. My copy, published by Pocket Books, says 'first published by Timescape books, 1973.' Since it isn't an original, I wouldn't consider it a canonical reference. Also, the book was nominated for (and won) the 1984 Prometheus award, implying that it was published in 1983. I suspect I have a misprint.DarkseidX (talk) 20:09, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The book plays on the fear of technology by a society of elitists (Maurai) against a society that thrives on personal freedom and responsibility (Northwest Union). Whether the book was written in 1983 or 1973 it is an amazing look into our current cultural beliefs.--24.34.119.22 (talk) 00:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
the 1983 edition was published by the Timescape Books imprint of simon and schuster. Timescape only operated from 1981 to 1985, so if anyone has a copy which says 1973, its a typographical error (or its from an alternate reality).Mercurywoodrose (talk) 16:28, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
