Writing and formatting[edit]

Some unneeded repetition - in the lead we see "Upon his" x 2, repeat of retirement in 1915, "took up" x 2, etc
Some copy-editing is needed here - for example, what is the "United Kingsdon"?

The first para of Early life uses "He" repeatedly, and it's not entirely clear where his father stops and Philip begins
Macleod or Macloed?
Ellipses should not be set with square brackets
Need more hyphens - for example, "three-round salute"
