Far too long[edit]

I agree with the idea that this article is far too long, but I left it as class=start, until someone is able to shorten it. I added the Energy template, as clearly much of the article is about coal mining. See Wikipedia:Splitting for some possibilities. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:35, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the template because not all subtopics can be notable enough to have their own articles. Removing valuable information due to "length" won't help. Cat is a good article as a long, sufficient article. --George Ho (talk) 21:20, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree the length of the article is appropriate Buckyboot (talk) 22:43, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Length is sufficient and the information provided is valuable material. Kraynak (talk) 23:55, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just stopped by here tidying up a reference but this article feels disproportionately long (188K) for the topic. It's longer than Philadelphia (which has sub-articles, but still), and several times the length of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Much of this information could be summarized, per WP:SUMMARY. The long accounts of each colliery, the potted biographies of various local notables? This reads more like an article in a local history publication than a Wikipedia article. I'm not going to be the one to do it, but this article needs to be about a quarter of its current length. As it stands it's almost unreadable for a casual reader. I'll begin reducing the article by removing the "potted" biographies, leaving those names that link internally to their own articles. Buckyboot (talk) 19:38, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This reduced length by 8,576 bytes. Buckyboot (talk) 19:49, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Next I'll removed the potted bios that don't link to anything. Buckyboot (talk) 19:50, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've created two new articles to make the size of the main article much more manageable. Buckyboot (talk) 14:59, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline from 1972 to today[edit]

A visit home left me SHOCKED. What happened? Kraynak (talk) 23:59, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest - Refer to History of Plymouth, Pennsylvania and read sub-section "Years of Retrenchment" — a detailed explanation/description of town's decline. Buckyboot (talk) 15:06, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
