Just a note that I intentionally created this at the scientific name rather than at a common name, in contrast with the other extant Siren spp. Prior to its publication, it was most commonly referred to as "leopard eel" (a name shared with the actual eel Myrichthys pardalis), but "reticulated siren" will likely be more common in the future. —Hyperik⌜talk⌟ 16:07, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding "leopard eel" vs. "reticulated siren": the division between a common name and a colloquial name (see hatnote at the latter) seems jarring and strange as those terms are synonymous. It is out of line with most other WP taxon articles to separate "standard" or "formal" common names and "colloquial" common names, if of course there are reliable references for each being in common use. The reference doesn't say it's "in place of" leopard eel, so I've deferred to the exact quote instead ("a more appropriate formal common name"). —Hyperik⌜talk⌟ 18:58, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
