"Sasha" is not a nickname[edit]

"Sasha" isn't his nickname. If he was born Russian, then Sasha (rus. Саша) is a diminutive ('short name') of the masculine name Alexander (rus. Александр). Every Александр will be called Саша by at least some of friends and family members. For sure in childhood (using diminutives towards children even by strangers is common is several Slavic languages).
