Jean-Jacques Marie′s inaccuracy claim[edit]

The french historician Jean-Jacques Marie asserts that Melgunov ″invented″ the number of 50.000 soldiers who were executed by Trotsky in the Crimea after the defeat of Wrangel. Melgunov does not claim this number. In the english version, p.65 he writes: ″The victim count here is in the tens of thousands. Crimea was nicknamed an “all-Russia graveyard”. We heard of those thousands from those who arrived to Moscow from Crimea. 50,000 were executed – reports “For the People” (No. 1). Others calculate the total at 100 – 120 and some even at 150 thousands. We do not know which of the numbers is accurate, even if it was much lower than that!″ In the german translation, Reprint from 2017, ISBN 978-3-940452-47-4, p.121, the last sentence is: We do not know which of the numbers is accurate, we hope that the real number is much lower than those mentioned above. So, Melgunov writes about tens of thousands of victims, but he does not give a certain number and he refers his source.
