I feel like there ought to be a page dedicated to discussion of the _stable_ homotopy groups of spheres, in isolation from the unstable case. (At the moment, the page for _stable_ redirects to Homotopy Groups of Spheres.) I don't know all that much about it (since I'm not a homotopy theorist), but I know the theory underlying the computation of the stable stems is quite rich and technical, to the extent that it makes sense to discuss it in a separate place from the "naive" (meant non-perjoratively) theory of the unstable groups. Any thoughts, please let me know. Especially if you want to write the article. ;) --Artie p 16:01, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree completely. I've tried several times to begin such an article and also to expand this one, but I'm always stumped about how to go about it. Stable homotopy theory has developed in such an encyclopedic way that it's hard for me to see the right/best way to discuss it.
