Merge from Foldback (sound engineering)[edit]

I'm not sure how this happened but we seem to now have two articles on the same topic. These should be merged together. Based on previous discussion it looks like Stage monitor or Stage monitor system is probably the best title for this material. If there are no objections, I can start by merging Foldback (sound engineering) content to this article. ~Kvng (talk) 22:40, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree they should be combined and that stage monitor system is probably the better title. Foldback seems to be a mostly European/British term. I have never heard it used in the press or in America. Robert.Harker (talk) 23:50, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the two articles should be merged. Foldback, despite being more often heard in the UK, is the better, more general term if the topic is going to mention interruptible foldback (IFB), headphones or in-ear monitors. Stage monitoring is limited to stage wedges, sidefills, drum fills, and any other loudspeakers aimed primarily at the performer. Binksternet (talk) 01:38, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Binksternet: of course we will end up with Foldback (sound engineering) as a redirect to the merged article and can mention the term in bold in the lead. We need to pick a single title and previous discussion seemed to show consensus for Stage monitor or Stage monitor system. Of course that was 7 years ago. I guess it wouldn't hurt but I'm a fan of WP:BOLD and I would have already done it if it were a smaller job. It's pretty clear that we shouldn't have two separate articles on this topic. I'm just trying to flush out any unexpected objection before investing the time into this. Still prepared to do this. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. I did not specify in my original proposal whether the final article would be called Foldback (sound engineering) or Stage monitor system. I've touched up the banners to propose the latter.
