Grot arrest[edit]

This is the first time I read a so many details about Grot arrest. May you provide your source ? This would be especially valuable as there are some controversy about the circunstance of his arrest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.89.171.124 (talk) 22:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have not heard about any controversy regarding the arrest of Gen. Rowecki. The facts of his arrest are very well established. The Home Army counter-intelligence conducted an investigation regarding his arrest and quickly identified the traitors. Instytut Pamieci Narodowej (IPN) also conducted and investigation into his arrest and murder at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The files of Ludwik Kalkstein and Blanka Kaczorowska were kept by the Sluzba Bezpieczenstwa and they survived intact. They are available to historians at IPN. Ludwik Kalkstein and Blanka Kaczorowska had to apply for passports to leave Poland and Gen. Czeslaw Kiszczak allowed both of them to leave Poland. (March 14, 2008)

The "controversy" (not the right word - but my english is poor) I was talking about, was that in some books I read (published in the late 50's and early 60's and therefore a little bit old dated) said that the exact circonstances of his arrest were unknown and suggest that he may have been betrayed by soviet agents (?!) . Thanks a lot for your data : I have learned something ! Do you have some good reading you would advice about those events ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.89.171.124 (talk) 12:54, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a link to IPN's Bulletin: [[1]]. There is an article titled: „Kalkstein i Kaczorowska w świetle akt UB” by Waldemar Grabowski. It talks about Rowecki's arrest. Another intersting book about Rowecki and his arrest is: "Generał Stefan Rowecki "Grot" w pamięci potomnych" by Oficyna Wydawnicza Rytm [[2]]. Kazimierz Leski who was an intelligence officer for the Home Army published his memoirs titled ŻYCIE NIEWŁAŚCIWIE UROZMAICONE where he wrote about Rowecki's arrest and the investigation by the Home Army that fallowed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.8.212.254 (talk) 18:25, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Halibutt[edit]

Since I described to you my position about Wikipedia's role in educating people, Pilsudski talk, "Pilsudski's Nationality"; those who care to read it, may see it there. If I encounterd 500 or 1000 English speaking people on the street, and asked them who Stefan Rowecki was, I doubt if I would get two who knew. So much for your edit summary, "C'mon Dan it's Common Knowledge" (have always disliked that phrase). I personally never heard of him, myself. There is a question mark (?) after 1944?, the year of his death. The statement that "he probably died" is not scholarly and rarely encountered in Encyclopedias. I'm not disputing this, just want to know where it's coming from. Does that bother you? Dr. Dan 01:15, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You must've got my comment wrong. I simply saw no need to source a fact that is mentioned by practically every biographical note on him, which however did not stop me from properly sourcing it. Is it enough? As to the question mark, it means that the exact date of his death is unknown and not all sources agree he was killed in 1944. Feel free to reword that.
