Note for the hidden observers: The Gourock Times 'Volendam' article on 6 September 1940 was a local scoop for this newspaper. Presenting a newspaper's own article is not infringing any copyright. This article has been widely re-quoted by the BBC Time line and other sources. In any case the presentation on this page is under BBC 'fair dealing' terms and acknowledged as such.
