The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour was an occasional television special[edit]

The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour was an occasional television special. A couple of episodes appeared each year.

One regular character was Hart Pomerantz wearing a beaver suit playing the "Canadian Beaver" running for election as Prime Minister of the forest. His rival, the Caribou from the quarter was accused of being an American bison who was skipping the draft. Lorne Michaels played straight man as television interviewer.

On one of the shows they gathered the CBC press corps for an improvised question and answer session. Adrian Clarkson was seated in the crowd but asked no questions as she was paralyzed with laughter.

Other skits involved Canadian issues such as the infestation of "Dutch Hockey Puck Disease" wiping out the Canadian hockey puck harvest and provoking financial hardship amongst farmers.

Yet another was a documentary on the declaration of independance by Baffin island. Their economy was going to be based on the export of snow products: snowmen, snowballs, etc. The story line went that Baffin island had actually been independant for two years but the declaration had only just reached Canada's south. One reason for independance was poor mail service.

This houmourous story was reflected in reality when I learned of Nunavut's existence from American broadcaster Peter Jennings' TV show.— Preceding unsigned comment added by NBPat (talkcontribs) 04:38, 22 October 2007
