[edit]Per Tibetan dwarf hamster#cite ref-Smith 2-0, „Tibetan dwarf hamster” means „Cricetulus tibetanus”, while „Ladak hamster” means „Cricetulus alticola”. Cricetulus tibetanus has a HB of 103 (pg. 245), not Cricetulus alticola (it has a HB of 80-98; pg. 242). --NGC 54 (talk | contribs) 14:02, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- Also, this source says that „Tibetan dwarf hamster” means „Cricetulus kamensis”. --NGC 54 (talk | contribs) 14:08, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- @NGC 54: I am responding to your request for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Rodents. Sorry, I am unable to help much.
- I think that the problem is that the common name "Tibetan dwarf hamster" has been used to describe 3 species, and that possibly 2 of those species may actually be the same species. The original description seems to be in Thomas and Hinton 1922, and the Smith source is just a data presentation including that.
- I edit a bit about rodents but not taxonomy. I do not know how to sort taxonomy issues, but if I had to guess at the longer term solution, it would be that Wikidata will eventually be the home for the wiki taxonomy community. I see that you already edit Wikidata so I expect you have thought about this - d:Wikidata:WikiProject Taxonomy. Thanks for the hamster curation. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:52, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
