Not the most expensive, adjusted for inflation or not[edit]

The claim that this is the most expensive game in history, adjusted for inflation or not, is just flat out incorrect. The cheapest US Neo Geo AES games were $200 in 1990 (adjusted for inflation, $365 in 2016) and topped out at $400+ for some of the higher MB titles in later years. I can't find a good source for Neo Geo games' MSRP though. CrinklyCrunk (talk) 23:07, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Neo Geo was not a normal console, didn't begin as one, and was always viewed as a niche product. New films are available to watch at home on day of release to those willing to pay for the privilege, but that doesn't mean we have to state in film articles that the home media version appeared on the same day as in theaters. Time Zone is the most expensive video game in history from a mainstream publisher, widely advertised, reviewed, and distributed, and without its price boosted by gimmicks like a "Collector's Edition". The only thing abnormal about Neo Geo was the price and power. SNK was a known company and the games were indeed widely advertised and reviewed in mainstream video game magazines. In 1990, if I had the money and inclination, I could have walked into the video game store at my local mall where it was on display and taken one home. Determining whether Neo Geo was or wasn't a normal console, and whether that status disqualifies its releases for the title of most expensive video game or not, seems rather like POV to me. Especially since the only reference I could find to Time Zone being the most expensive video game was one guy's conjecture on his blog. CrinklyCrunk (talk) 20:00, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Maher is a published video game historian and his blog qualifies as a RS under WP:SPS. Given that, the way to dispute his claim is not to criticize his reliability, but to provide another RS that says otherwise. That said, I will make an edit that, I think, should be an acceptable compromise. Ylee (talk) 14:44, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
