cleanup[edit]

article was badly written, more closely resembled a school essay or newspaper article than an encyclopedia article. some unreferenced or erroneous info - 'the brothers flipped a coin to see who would change his name to avoid confusion' - why would anyone confuse the two? in the later life section it was stated that conway 'spent the remainder of his life in london' - not two paragraphs later, it is stated that he was found in a california flophouse in 1965.

A lot of this article is ripped off from IMDB, the "so called" unreliable source. =//= Johnny Squeaky 01:54, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lost Horizon?[edit]

Does anyone know how and why he chose the name "Conroy"? Was he perhaps inspired by Lost Horizon?Foofbun (talk) 09:09, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Despite having made millions in his twenty-four-year film career, Conway later struggled to make ends meet."[edit]

I seriously doubt Conway made "millions" - which I would take to mean at least 2 million - from his acting work. Conway worked steadily for much of his career but all his major roles were in low budget/B Movies or TV and Radio. His final decade or so largely comprised of TV guest appearances which would only have represented a few days work at a time.

The sentence suggests a mighty fall from vast wealth to penury. However, Conway probably lived a comfortable Hollywood lifestyle for a couple of decades followed by alcoholism, repeated ill-health needing hospital treatment and little work during his last 10 years. Surely his career earnings at their height weren't so great that his eventual poverty is particularly surprising in those circumstances.

Unless there is some evidence that Conway somehow made "millions" and that he spent, squandered or lost it all I'd contend that this gives an unfair impression and ought to be at least modified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artwest57 (talkcontribs) 15:26, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to agree. "Millions" seems too much for Conway to have made, though I suppose if one adds up all his income from his first decade in films and radio in the U.S., he may well have made two million during that period, but that's a book-keeping exercise. In a good year he might have earned over 200K, plus a tidy profit from some investments, but that's in a relatively short period of time, and even then, spread out over a few years.
