circular definition
[edit]Talk about a circular definition: "Twenty-eight mansions (Chinese: 二十八宿; Hanyu Pinyin: Èr Shí Bā Xiù) are 28 mansions in Chinese astronomy." Twenty-eight mansions are twenty-eight mansions... How informative. Would someone care to explain what a "mansion" is? Bueller 007 16:25, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Image
[edit]I think the image should be reverse(top-below) according to Chinese tradition. see Bagua.--Keyi 00:44, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Also, the image shows the "white tiger" on the right, which contradicts the description and runs counter to convention of placing the West on the right. Matttoothman (talk) 20:37, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
Doubt about order, or: why Spring -> Winter -> Fall -> Summer ?
[edit]Why "Spring -> Winter -> Fall -> Summer" and not "Spring -> Summer -> Fall -> Winter" ? I think this order (of Seasons / Directions / Elements / Four Symbols) is inconsistent with chinese philosophy.
Thus not:
- Azure Dragon of the East (東方 青龍) - Spring - Element: Wood
Black Tortoise of the North (北方 玄武) - Winter - Element: Water- White Tiger of the West (西方 白虎) - Autumn - Element: Metal
Vermilion Bird of the South (南方 朱雀) - Summer - Element: Fire
but:
- Azure Dragon of the East (東方 青龍) - Spring - Element: Wood
- Vermilion Bird of the South (南方 朱雀) - Summer - Element: Fire
- White Tiger of the West (西方 白虎) - Autumn - Element: Metal
- Black Tortoise of the North (北方 玄武) - Winter - Element: Water
Besides, this will be the natural order of the...
- Seasons: Spring -> Summer -> Fall -> Winter
- Directions of the sun: East -> South -> West -> North
- Elements: Wood -> Fire -> [Earth] -> Metal -> Water
- Four Symbols: Azure Dragon - Vermilion Bird - White Tiger - Black Tortoise

- No, in your linked screenshot you can see, reading direction is from right to left: 1-28 = East-North-West-South = Green Dragon - Black Tortoise - Red Bird - White Tiger. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.247.253.6 (talk) 04:32, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
