Random draw[edit]

Hi everyone, if I didn't do the citation right for the thing about Ukraine and the random draw, someone can fix it, I won't be offended. :-) Kingnavland 22:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Red Highlighting[edit]

Why are the bottom team (the Faroe Islands) highlighted in red? Its not like they are going to be relegated at the end of the campaign! JieBie 09:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh in fact i just noticed the note about the Faroes being "unable to qualify". Does this mean as the group goes on we'll see more and more teams which can no longer qualify being highlighted in red? JieBie 09:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed we will see more teams highlighted in red, as more and more are eliminated. After the process is finished, we usually put the background to unqualified teams back to white.

I'm not really understanding how the Faroe Islands cannot qualify since they can still mathematically conquer 15 points (5 matches remaining × 3 points), enough to go to 2nd place, at least. Parutakupiu talk || contribs 16:56, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you notice now, Faroes have 4 matches remaining, and can only go to 12 points. Right now, second place Italy stands on 16. You were probably looking at a table that had been partially updated with the highlighting, but had not been updated with the results from the matches on the 6th. Kingnavland 22:53, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation, but I asked this before Faroe Islands lost their 8th game, finishing for good their qualification "hopes" ;) Parutakupiu talk || contribs 23:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Georgia[edit]

How is it that georgia cannot qualify if lithuania loses to scotland

The top 3 play each other so someone has to get the points, and if Scotland win there will always be at least 2 teams too far ahead from Georgia. Aheyfromhome 23:13, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i believe that you missed an elimination secenario. If france beats italy shouldn't that eliminate georgia considering that france has two more points than italy —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.104.125.55 (talk) 00:46, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's the top 2 in the group that qualify, so Georgia can afford France to race away in first place and still get second for themselves. Aheyfromhome 16:02, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Georgia have now become unable to qualify due to Scotland's win over Lithuania, but I can't figure out how to edit that in... it should go directly under the notation about the Faroe Islands, but I can't find it... Kingnavland 15:58, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The list of eliminated teams is part of the table template: Template:UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying Group B. - MTC 16:27, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the change to the template.  Doonhamer | Banter  16:36, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay, I thought maybe that was it... thanks! Kingnavland 21:57, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Games played[edit]

How is it possible that Ukraine has only played 8 games while all the other teams have played 9? --Patik 21:35, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's an odd number of teams in the group, so after an odd number of rounds of matches, someone will have missed out one. If everyone had played 9, with seven teams in the group (and two teams per match) it'd mean that 9*7/2=31.5 matches had been played. :) Alai 22:50, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So are they at a disadvantage then? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.103.41.86 (talk) 18:04, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, eventually everyone plays the 12 macthes, just not all at the same time Udonknome 05:43, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scotland and France[edit]

For who reverted my change Possible development on October 17 If Scotland draws Georgia and France loses Lithuania Scotland will have 25 points France 22. If later France wins Ukraine and Italy wins Scotland France and Scotland will have the same 25 points. Due to the GD France will qualify and Scotland no. Therefore the second like in your possible development is not correct. I am going to delete it again. ArmenianNY 11:29, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scotland beat France in both their matches, so if Scotland and France come level on points then Scotland will be ahead of France on a head to head tiebreak. Overall goal difference does not factor in because head to head is the first tiebreaker. - MTC 13:40, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
True, according to UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying#Tiebreakers. Chris Cunningham 14:24, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Chris and MTC you so that what you were dreaming of did not happen. I wish your favorite Scotland good luck! France is still alive and, moreover is going to be the possible winner in the group. ArmenianNY 22:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry ArmenianNY, your speech seems like you are vandalising the article. I am not a fans of both Scotland and France(Both teams are not my favour), and I also hate Italy. But I could say Scotland maybe qualified that time. You are editing the article by your regulation, not UEFA's regulation. I have to remind you that if you still edit the article by non-official regulation again, you would be blocked with a vandalism reason, labeled by other contributors. Scotland vs. Italy, 17 November 2007[edit]

This will be a crucial match. Me, I hope Scotland win, but they'd need luck - competing against the world champions. However, the article's green line makes it unclear - there is a line below France and Scotland and above Italy, yet it says that "teams highlighted in green are certain of qualification", which is confusing. Perhaps there should be no green line at all?--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 00:20, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The green line is there to indicate that the top two teams are rewarded with qualification. Only once qualification is assured (i.e. it is mathematically impossible for a team to finish outwith the top two) is any team highlighted in green. I'll be there on Saturday and i hope that next time i look at this page i see Scotland higlighted in green, not red! JieBie 15:28, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The refs are rubbish! A 91st minute winner by Italy was from a free-kick what should of been for Scotland! Clyde1998 (talk) 18:54, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All Italian commentators praised the Scottish fans for their sportsmanship, but it seems it doesn't apply to all fans, judging from this comment above. Italy had a goal disallowed for off-side that wasn't and Scotland's goal was off-side. Why didn't you mention these two mistakes in your comment? 209.247.23.93 (talk) 19:07, 17 November 2007 (UTC) california viola[reply]
