1972-1979[edit]

There is a void about the operations of the USS LaSalle (AGF-3)/LPD-3 from 1972-1979 when she was the flag ship for MidEast Force and homeported in Bahrain

Armament[edit]

The weaponry for the USS Lasalle is listed as only eight .50cal machine guns but in the picture she has two twin 3"50 cannon as forward port and forward starboard gun mounts. All 3"50's were decomissioned and removed from U.S. Navy ships before the end of 1992. Most were replaced with 25mm chain guns (Bushmaster). I know the Lasalle got the replacements, she used one of her Bushmaster's to destroy a pair of Iraqi speedboats that attacked her a few months prior to the first Gulf War. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.59.69.48 (talk) 11:23, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know the 25mm were there also. Along with the 2 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System, and 2 MK-19 40mm grenade launchers.71.35.59.248 (talk) 16:32, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Naming[edit]

I live in the city of LaSalle, and when the ship was christened, the local newspaper mentioned nothing about the ship being named after the county, just the city. BarrackObamaFTW (talk) 01:31, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Barrack[reply]
