I'm not adverse to a merger either, but from a naming-point of view, this article should be merged with the other one, and not the way round that it has been suggested. Schwede 66 00:17, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I see what you mean - the common form for these articles is "[order] [Party name] Government of New Zealand". In this case it's a formal coalition of two parties. My only issue with the "Liberal–Reform coalition Government of New Zealand" is that the Liberals had renamed themselves United by 1927, four years before the coalition with Reform came about. I'd suggest then the correct article title should be "United–Reform coalition Government of New Zealand"--LJ Holden 00:56, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with new title. We could thus move either of these articles to the new name and then merge the other. Whatever is easier. However, it needs to be an endash between United and Reform. Oppose, on the grounds that the coalition was a political entity, not a government, therefore this article should be about the coalition party/parties (see Internet MANA), and the article on the government (and the current content of United/Reform Coalition) should be similarly named as United/Reform Coalition Government (or United/Reform Coalition Government of New Zealand if we must have the dab) - with Liberal–Reform coalition Government of New Zealand being merged into the new article. Looking at this 2015 discussion again, I see that you moved this to have “coalition" capitalised, Hazhk. Not sure why. I suggest it should be lower case. Thoughts? Schwede 66 16:19, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Schwede66: I don't recall moving the article but I suppose my thinking was that it was a formal coalition, an organisation, comparable to the Coalition (Australia), so it should be capitalised as a proper noun. I don't really have any objection to moving the article back to lower case 'coalition'. --Hazhk (talk) 16:36, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
