Infidelity Citations in Lead[edit]

Are the two infidelity citations in the lead needed there given what is said in MOS:LEADCITE? -- Pemilligan (talk) 19:18, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would say they're appropriate, at least for now - per MOS:LEADCITE, "Complex, current, or controversial subjects may require many citations" and this issue seems to be all three of those things at the present time. Page views have shot up dramatically on this article, presumably due to the infidelity and campaign suspension. I think it's likely a lot of people are coming to this article from Google to get a quick overview, and are probably only reading the lead, so it's valuable for the citations to be readily available. I'm typically amenable to removing citations from the lead but I included them due to WP:BLP and the attention the allegations are attracting. However, in this particular case, I agree with Mkcaldwell that perhaps we should wait until the news has settled for a while. Carguychris (talk) 19:35, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
