Untitled[edit]

Removed references to Wachusett Lake and Lake Wachusett as alternate names. Wachusett Lake is a different body of water at the base of Mt. Wachusett. The citation I removed appears to refer to that Wachusett Lake--it could not be referring to the reservoir since the cited text predates the reservoir's construction. -- Scarhill

Recreation and Fishing[edit]

I have removed the sentence: After September 11th, public access to the dam top promenade was restricted. In my recollection, access to the top of the dam was closed much earlier--I believe after a suicide or suicides in the late 80's. After 9/11, access to the area below the dam was restricted and only in 2005. Since I'm not sure explaining all of this is warranted, I'm inclined to simply remove the quoted sentence. -- Scarhill

The reason for not allowing fishing from boats is to prevent the introduction of invasive species (i.e., zebra mussels, non-native grasses, et cetera) into the water. At the Quabbin, fishing is allowed, but boats must be rented from the Department of Conservation and Recreation rather than private boats for the same reason.

Invasive species are often brought in by waterfowl far more often than boats. Most city reservoirs allow at least non motorized boating, and few have problems with so called "invasive species."

Many communities allow the use of boats and even swimming in reservoirs (although not usually in the Northeast), but these communities also have to filter their water, which the MWRA does not have to do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.62.141 (talk) 13:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The sign that says "Public Water Supply" and then ironically "No Trespassing" is a sad one indeed. There is no such thing as trespass on public property. Keeping military bases, Fort Knox, and ranges closed is reasonable, but other than that it is nothing but a bunch of eco marxists who try to look good on paper and to control every aspect of our lives. No real evidence exists that most recreational activity such as non motorized or electric powered boating, let alone fishing and ice fishing, poses a a contamination threat to a watershed. If they want to prevent aquatic hitchikers they should inspect boats and then allow them. These decreased freedoms are precisely the reason why so many in the country are holding tea parties against this type of liberal non sense. Hydroelectric power[edit]

Hmmm--- Normally, when we feel that something is missing, we just add content ourselves rather than taking a consultative role. If you care, read the article and you will find that all the components of the MWRA water system now show electrical generation. The MWRA does not tell us a lot about its electrical generation. In fact, they only tell the total power generation and not the capabilities of the individual power stations. If you would be so kind as to additional research, please add any additional information to Template:MWRA overview so it gets transcluded into all the MWRA component articles. --LymanSchool 19:02, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
