Undisclosed conflict of interest and POV editing[edit]

This article sparkles like it was written by a public relations firm. It is very POV.

Solely based on being a single purpose account that POV pushes the user RasaPetrauskaite should be regarded as having a possible undisclosed conflict of interest. Based on easily obtained off-Wiki information I am nearly certain that the ToU terms on COI editing are being violated. I have tagged the article accordingly and am doing a dive into other users active here to see how deep this behavior goes. 112.119.86.128 (talk) 16:48, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Based on articles edited, edit summaries, and subtle POV pushing in favor or veganism and animal rights, it is a good guess that Steven02511 is an involved editor here. If you look at the talk page for this user, you will see that I am not the first person to raise an eyebrow. 112.119.86.128 (talk) 17:02, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RasaPetrauskaite (talk) 06:08, 8 July 2019 (UTC) I disclosed by Conflict of Interest today. I have never been paid by DxE or anyone else to edit their pages. I do volunteer with DxE and donate money to them because I believe in helping animals. I will refrain from making direct edits to DxE or pages connected to them, including this one, unless my other attempts to remove slander are unsuccessful. Then I may try to remove it directly, after pointing it out on the talk pages first. I am interested in keeping pages accurate and fair. Especially I want to prevent slander that harms organizations that promote helping people and animals, because there are unethical people out there with financial ties to animal agriculture industry who are ready to insert misleading information that will ultimately hurt animals. So I want to keep info accurate.[reply]

I am not convinced that you are the only connected editor working on this article. And you have no interest in keeping articles accurate and fair. You deliberately violated disclosure rules and you have tried to make these articles look like brochures for your organization. You are WP:NOTHERE. It is very clear from your editing history that you only intend to edit on this topic with the ultimate purpose of promoting a particular point of view. I believe you are telling the truth about not being paid so I will not re-add that tag but a connected contributor tag is going up until I can fully analyze the editing history of this article to find other bad actors. Some of the other accounts I see look very suspicious. 112.119.86.128 (talk) 16:17, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Edit history here still shows evidence of extensive COI editing in the last couple of years. The known conflicted users are still frequent editors and other users are making w hat I would call POV editing such as changing neutral terms to terms that support a specific agenda. 184.166.58.71 (talk) 19:35, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest disclosure[edit]

I donate money to several non-profit organizations, including Direct Action Everywhere (DxE). Wayne Hsiung, the subject of this article, is the founder and lead organizer of DxE. I believe in helping people and animals. So this creates in me motivation to keep the pages related to DxE fair and to remove misleading information that perhaps is being inserted by people who have financial ties to the animal agriculture industry. I have in the past replaced inaccurate and perhaps deliberately misleading information with language directly from citation that the same people have found or I found myself in reputable online newspapers, including The New York Times. In addition, I volunteer with Direct Action Everywhere. I will going forward refrain from making direct edits to DxE pages, including this one, except if there's blatant slander present that does not actually apprear in any newspapers. It appears that this slander is sometimes fabricated by people who either get paid to promote the meat, dairy or egg industries or perhaps is made by people who are stake-holders in these animal ag operations. These people routinely try to undermine our organization through both ethical and non-ethical ways. Also, worth mentioning, I work in an unrelated industry, at an investment company. I have never been paid by Direct Action Everywhere or any other non-profit organization. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RasaPetrauskaite (talkcontribs) 04:53, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes slander appears on this page[edit]

I volunteer with Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) and donate money to them periodically because I believe in helping animals. Wayne Hsiung is one of the founders and the lead organizer of DxE. That said, sometimes I noticed that slanderous and false information had in the past been inserted into this article. I also know that the animal agriculture industry tried to undermine the work that DxE does to promote Animal Rights. So something to watch out for is people who try to undermine DxE because they may have ties to the animal agriculture industry. To give more color on this persistent problem, the animal agriculture industry had the US government pass the Enterprise Terrorism Act to put into prison Animal Rights activists who did "an open rescue" of animals bound for slaughter. This is something that several animal rights groups were battling over the past years. The animal agriculture industry also had influence over the FBI, which sent agents to raid two animal sanctuaries that may have adopted two piglets who were "rescued" from an agricultural facility. In addition, the animal agriculture industry petitioned the IRS to remove 501(c)3 non-profit tax-advantaged status from Direct Action Everywhere and PETA. They were trying to discourage donors from giving money to these Animal Rights organizations. So the animal agriculture industry uses ethical and unethical means to harm the Animal Rights movement. This appears to extend to Wikipedia where some people insert inaccurate information that is not found in any sources and that appears to be motivated to paint DxE in a bad light. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RasaPetrauskaite (talkcontribs) 06:05, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RE: POV Editing-- I don't see which statements seem inaccurate or inappropriately given because of a conflict of interest. Every statement I see in this article seems to have a reliable citation. I also fail to see a slant at this point. Perhaps this article was edited to be better since the complaints were made. I think the complaints undermine the credibility of the facts in the article. Just to add context, I am adding this comment on November 15, 2020 at 7:11pm Pacific Time Zone so that editors and readers can understand which draft of the article I am referring to. I am unclear as to whether I have a COI myself. I have two online friends who were activists alongside Hsiung. I sympathize with the cause and I considered giving time/money to conservation and other animal rights efforts. Recoveredjackie (talk) 03:12, 16 November 2020 (UTC)RecoveredJackie[reply]
Hello Recoveredjackie. Thank you for your comment here. I don't think simply having friends who were activists alongside Hsiung gives you a COI. If you have changes you would like to make, I encourage you to WP:Be bold. Worst case is that someone reverts your edit, which is a fine and natural part of the Wikipedia process. I've tried to make some improvements to the article. The main issue is citations, where sentences either don't have any citation or the citation provided does not match the sentence. You can spot these in the article by the [citation needed] tags. Jmill1806 (talk) 23:16, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lingering tag[edit]

I've replaced the lingering Template:COI tag here with a more specific Template:More citations needed tag. I improved the general wording of the article to a more encyclopedic style, but there are a lot of claims I still haven't found citations for. Help would be appreciated.
