Names[edit]

The village in question is referred to both as Wootton and as Wootton Bridge, as the Wootton bridge article makes clear. The redirect is necessary to avoid confusion. Naturenet | Talk 19:01, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

This page was previously deleted despite my comment above. As eleven articles link to it under the name 'Wootton, Isle of Wight' and were not corrected, I have reinstated the redirect and request that the article not be deleted again unless somebody can trouble themselves to repair the links as well. Thank you. Naturenet | Talk 14:49, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move from Wootton Bridge to Wootton, Isle of Wight[edit]

The article was moved without discussion to Wootton, Isle of Wight. I'm fairly sure that this should at least have had a discussion and maybe a vote, because it's certainly something that has caused contention in the past. Naturenet | Talk 11:09, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I thought I would make some improvements to the article for Wootton and was surprised to see it named Wootton Bridge as the primary title. While it is a unique name, as someone very familiar with the Isle of Wight it struck me as alarming that a whole area had been apparently renamed when multiple sources, including Ordnance Survey and Google, show that Wootton remains by far the more popular name for the area, and so would make it a much better candidate under WP:COMMONNAME. I can't be alone in having the opinion that the name that has been established over nearly a thousand years shouldn't be so easily swept away? Nevertheless I have made sure to include Wootton Bridge as an alternative name to acknowledge the variance in opinion. Whistler (talk) 20:54, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My point was not that the move was wrong - in fact, I'm not that bothered either way - but that it is normal when moving an article to have some discussion about it beforehand, not just to do it. See WP:CON and WP:RM#CM. If you look in the article history, there has been some debate about this in the past, so your view is not the only one, however compelling it may be. As you can see, I'm not that bothered that I'm going to suggest any such redebate, but it's something to remember for next time. Naturenet | Talk 16:51, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, noted for future. Whistler (talk) 21:07, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

IoW Fest 1969[edit]

... obviously was not the largest pop fest until then, viz. Hyde Park and of course Woodstock of that same year.

Merges and Moves[edit]

@Anthony Appleyard: just trying to track the justification for recent change on Wootton, Isle of Wight. You've reversed a 14-year old move/merge without recent discussion, leaving a single merge template pointing in the directions opposite to that implied in a 2015 discussion. Do you have any views as to current best way forward for these two pages? Did you mean to keep the merge template (in which case the reciprocal template is needed), or was its reinstatement inadvertent (easily done)? Klbrain (talk) 13:51, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
