Popular Culture is Trivia[edit]

I understand that for those Wiki editors who have never been to Japan, can't speak Japanese and only know about Japanese culture through mangas and anime and whatever else that gets marketed to 14 year old boys, that listing every comic book that makes reference to, say, the Imperial Regalia is a sign of respect, that they are somehow being respectful of the culture they choose to write about. So far this fails to be the case. I'm putting the Pop Cult. section here, so that if someone with more free-time than I have wants to actually cite these sources, perhaps they can make a case that this information is somehow critical to the understanding of the Imperial Regalia. Curiously enough, the article on the United States Constitution doesn't have a Pop Culture section in it, listing all the comic books it has ever been mentioned in. One day I hope Wikipedia will take Japanese history and folklore as serious as it does American history and folklore. Chalchiuhtlatonal (talk) 13:18, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In Okami the main character wields various weapons inspired by the Yata no Kagami, including the signature weapon of the character.
In The King of Fighters series, the Mirror of Yata is in possession of Chizuru Kagura, member of the Yata clan that holds one of the three sacred artifacts that originally sealed the serpent monster Orochi 1,800 years ago
In the manga series Naruto, Itachi Uchiha uses the mirror Yata no Kagami as part of his Susano'o technique, it takes the form of an indestructible shield
In the CLAMP manga series xxxHolic, an education student uses a cursed spiritual artifact to obtain a replica of the Yata no Kagami from a store that refused to give it to her.
The Yata no Kagami appears as an accessory in Tales of Symphonia along with the other three Imperial Regalia of Japan. The items are obtained upon the defeat of a powerful demon known as the Sword Dancer. The Yata no Kagami (Known as the Yata Mirror in-game) is the first obtained, followed by the Yasakani no Magatama (Magatama Jewel) and the Kusanagi no Tsurugi (Kusanagi Blade). Of the three, the Kusanagi no Tsurugi is the only one not treated as an accessory, being a weapon.

No looking?[edit]

According to the article Order of the Sacred Treasures ...the Yata Mirror, so sacred that not even the Emperor is allowed to look at it.... True? Why? If so, why not listed here? Something is missing. --12:11, 15 April 2007 (UTC)~

merge??[edit]

Number of Yata no Kagami?[edit]

Most of the article talks about the mirror as a unique artifact that is a part of the very distinct Imperial Regalia of Japan, but the last part mentions that there are three in separate locations. Which is true? Or is Yata no Kagami a class of mirrors? Another impression I am getting is that the two Yata no Kagami not placed in Ise Jingu are replicas...
