Previous and next season format[edit]

The time line needs to be changed. If the team moved from one location to another location between seasons this template will not recognize it. --Pinkkeith 20:03, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GM[edit]

Again, I think this might be making too much of a jump. Some teams have GMs, some teams don't. Some have head coaches with some personnel say, some teams don't. Some teams have executives overseeing a personnel department, others don't. But for teams who don't have a GM (and all teams' GMs aren't alike in their responsibilities), putting a name in that field, "de facto" or not, is simply incorrect. Team colors[edit]

I noticed that the team colors are being set automatically dependent on the name of the team being used in the infobox. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in changing it so that you could manually change the colors for past seasons when they didn't use the current team color. --Pinkkeith (talk) 18:39, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Has this ever been addressed? I'm working on an article about the 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates (the Steelers). I'm trying to figure out a way to get the Pirates to show up as black and gold since the team colors are the same. --Son (talk) 18:21, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

 Done This had previously been addressed using a teamcolor parameter, but this approach required the use of obscure codes to get the correct color scheme. Recently I've updated the color templates to take a year parameter and I've now extended this approach to this infobox template. Now the year and the teamname will control which color scheme you see and the color schemes for all NFL teams should be historically accurate. Nice. If I may continue to request, could the "Results" and "Uniform" headers have the border as well? It looks odd for them to not follow the standard. My second request is for the actual team page (I.E. Washington Redskins) to have the same standard too. For example, the "Current uniform", "Personnel", "Team history" could all use the bordered color header. Possibility of adding an image part?[edit]

Is there anyway that the infobox can have an image parameter? I know the {{MLB yearly infobox}} uses one.

Input needed on potential replacement of the "Timeline" section[edit]

I'm playing in the sandbox with some tweaks to this template. Specifically, I've implemented a change to the navigation at the bottom of the infobox that allows the user to jump to the previous and next season articles. This change is primarily aesthetic and brings this infobox in line with Template:Infobox NFL which is used for the league season articles (e.g. 2015 NFL season). There are several samples in the testcases page to allow you to see the change. As I know this template is widely used I've tried to find a number of diverse examples. Local radio parameter[edit]

Far from "pointless" or "not significant enough", I think it's entirely appropriate to include an optional parameter to note a team's local radio partners for the season. Although the NFL itself has negotiated league-wide partnerships with the national broadcast TV networks for decades, the teams themselves each continue to maintain partnerships w/ local radio stations, often as the flagship for a regional radio network for play-by-play & related coverage. Also note that similar parameters can be found in the {{Infobox MLB yearly}} & {{Infobox NBA season}} templates. Levdr1lp / talk 19:32, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Conference place[edit]

Is this parameter meant to refer to the place after the regular season, such as the playoff seeding? Or after the playoffs? (I.e. loser of the conference championship game would be #2, even if they were seeded at #1). Helltopay-27 (talk) 22:02, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Short description issues[edit]

This template embeds the short description "NFL American football season", which works for the NFL teams but not for the non-NFL articles that use this template, such as 1948 Ottawa Rough Riders season, Montreal Machine, 2007 Spokane Shock season, 1962 Oakland Raiders season, etc. Pinging The Anome as the original contributor of the embedded short description. I noticed that the NBA, MLB, and NHL template headings link to both the league season and franchise articles, while the NFL ones don't. Here I've posted four examples, one from each league. I know the MLB season template doesn't have the franchise link, but I'll deal with that when I can. As you may have figured, the fourth template, an NFL team season template, does not link to either. Now, I understand that the NFL template has the team colors and whatnot unlike the others, and adding a link can ruin it, but I think the template editors can still find a way to install the links into the page (I'm not the best at coding, so I'm unsure; just adding an idea). AP All AFL[edit]

I request a new option: AP All-AFL. The current AP All-Pros option links to the NFL All-Pro team, so it's inappropriate for AFL team seasons.

Offensive/defensive coordinators?[edit]

What is the need for the offensive and defensive coordinators to be listed in the infobox? The head coach should be enough. Can an admin please remove the "off_coach" and "def_coach" parameters from this template? – PeeJay 16:20, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is no team in the entire league where the assistant coaches are prominent enough for them to be included in the infobox. If people want to know who the coordinators were for that season, there's usually a team staff list lower down the season article that they should look at. – PeeJay 21:42, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Eric Bieniemy, Jason Garrett, and Josh McDaniels are just the ones that come to mind immediately. And that is just offensive assistants. Dan Quinn, and Steve Spagnuolo are defensive assistants. Many assistant coaches are more well known than some of the head coaches. But all of that is completely irrelevant. So you've managed to name five out of the 64 co-ordinators in the entire league and you think that supports the idea that coordinators are noteworthy enought to be included in the infobox? Bieniemy is the only one of those five who hasn't been an NFL head coach. Most NFL team season articles don't use these parameters because most people don't need them, so why should we provide a parameter that is only useful in 8% of situations this season? – PeeJay 17:58, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you read my entire comment, you would know that those were just examples, and that it wasn't my main argument. You are better off finding the editor who made the template and asking him why he put those parameters in, instead of needlessly complaining about it and trying to save the world. Please replace {{NFLPrimaryStyle}} and {{NFLAltPrimaryStyle}}, which both are redirects, with their targets, {{Gridiron alt primary style}} and {{Gridiron alt primary style}}, respectively.
