Previous and next season format[edit]

The time line needs to be changed. If the team moved from one location to another location between seasons this template will not recognize it. --Pinkkeith 20:03, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do we fix this?++aviper2k7++ 06:16, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It will have to be completely remade, I think. It also won't recognize when a team did not play for a season, such as the Cleveland Browns. --Pinkkeith 15:05, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added the format of previous and next season out of Template:Infobox NFL season2. --Louis Alberto Guel 18:00, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GM[edit]

Again, I think this might be making too much of a jump. Some teams have GMs, some teams don't. Some have head coaches with some personnel say, some teams don't. Some teams have executives overseeing a personnel department, others don't. But for teams who don't have a GM (and all teams' GMs aren't alike in their responsibilities), putting a name in that field, "de facto" or not, is simply incorrect. Pats1 T/C 03:59, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I made the field optional, so no harm done.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:59, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Team colors[edit]

I noticed that the team colors are being set automatically dependent on the name of the team being used in the infobox. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in changing it so that you could manually change the colors for past seasons when they didn't use the current team color. --Pinkkeith (talk) 18:39, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

:The infobox is for current players only, so this is not an issue. The colors should always reflect the team currently employing the player.►Chris NelsonHolla! 18:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My bad, didn't even realize what article this was, haha.►Chris NelsonHolla! 18:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This still needs to be fixed. I would if I knew how to do it. --Pinkkeith (talk) 19:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Has this ever been addressed? I'm working on an article about the 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates (the Steelers). I'm trying to figure out a way to get the Pirates to show up as black and gold since the team colors are the same. --Son (talk) 18:21, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

 Done This had previously been addressed using a teamcolor parameter, but this approach required the use of obscure codes to get the correct color scheme. Recently I've updated the color templates to take a year parameter and I've now extended this approach to this infobox template. Now the year and the teamname will control which color scheme you see and the color schemes for all NFL teams should be historically accurate. If you notice any issues with this, please let me know. — DeeJayK (talk) 20:07, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Deejayk: Is it possible to add the border colors that most team templates and now the NFL player infobox use, to this? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:44, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why that couldn't be implemented. I'll take a look at it. (By the way, sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this, @Dissident93:). — DeeJayK (talk) 23:17, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Deejayk: No problem, not like it was a major issue or anything. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:18, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 Done The request by Dissident93 to add a border to the header has been implemented. — DeeJayK (talk) 23:12, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. If I may continue to request, could the "Results" and "Uniform" headers have the border as well? It looks odd for them to not follow the standard. My second request is for the actual team page (I.E. Washington Redskins) to have the same standard too. For example, the "Current uniform", "Personnel", "Team history" could all use the bordered color header. Not sure if I'm asking too much, though. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:00, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Team owner[edit]

Just a suggestion: How about adding a "team owner" field? Mdumas43073 (talk) 23:06, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possibility of adding an image part?[edit]

Is there anyway that the infobox can have an image parameter? I know the MLB yearly infobox uses one.

Input needed on potential replacement of the "Timeline" section[edit]

I'm playing in the sandbox with some tweaks to this template. Specifically, I've implemented a change to the navigation at the bottom of the infobox that allows the user to jump to the previous and next season articles. This change is primarily aesthetic and brings this infobox in line with Template:Infobox NFL which is used for the league season articles (e.g. 2015 NFL season). There are several samples in the testcases page to allow you to see the change. As I know this template is widely used I've tried to find a number of diverse examples. I'd love to get some input on this change before I implement it. Thanks! — DeeJayK (talk) 23:11, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

These changes have now been implemented. Please let me know if you have any issues or notice any pages that don't look right. Thanks! — DeeJayK (talk) 23:10, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Local radio parameter[edit]

Far from "pointless" or "not significant enough", I think it's entirely appropriate to include an optional parameter to note a team's local radio partners for the season. Although the NFL itself has negotiated league-wide partnerships with the national broadcast TV networks for decades, the teams themselves each continue to maintain partnerships w/ local radio stations, often as the flagship for a regional radio network for play-by-play & related coverage. Also note that similar parameters can be found in the Infobox MLB yearly & Infobox NBA season templates. Levdr1lp / talk 19:32, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Conference place[edit]

Is this parameter meant to refer to the place after the regular season, such as the playoff seeding? Or after the playoffs? (I.e. loser of the conference championship game would be #2, even if they were seeded at #1). Helltopay-27 (talk) 22:02, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Short description issues[edit]

This template embeds the short description "NFL American football season", which works for the NFL teams but not for the non-NFL articles that use this template, such as 1948 Ottawa Rough Riders season, Montreal Machine, 2007 Spokane Shock season, 1962 Oakland Raiders season, etc. Pinging The Anome as the original contributor of the embedded short description. Raymie (tc) 19:54, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the short description tag. Perhaps these articles should use a different template? -- The Anome (talk) 21:02, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Linking[edit]

2020–21 Utah Jazz season
< 2019–20 2021–22 >

2021 Baltimore Orioles
← 2020 Seasons 2022 →
2020–21 New York Islanders
2021 Seattle Seahawks season

I noticed that the NBA, MLB, and NHL template headings link to both the league season and franchise articles, while the NFL ones don't. Here I've posted four examples, one from each league. I know the MLB season template doesn't have the franchise link, but I'll deal with that when I can. As you may have figured, the fourth template, an NFL team season template, does not link to either. Now, I understand that the NFL template has the team colors and whatnot unlike the others, and adding a link can ruin it, but I think the template editors can still find a way to install the links into the page (I'm not the best at coding, so I'm unsure; just adding an idea). This is what I'm proposing. Seahawks4LifeTALKCONTRIBS 16:24, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

AP All AFL[edit]

I request a new option: AP All-AFL. The current AP All-Pros option links to the NFL All-Pro team, so it's inappropriate for AFL team seasons.

This would follow the same format as label22, but with "All-Pro Team" replaced by "All-AFl Team".--Harper J. Cole (talk) 19:53, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Harper J. Cole: There is no article series for "All-AFL Team" that I can see? (2017 All-AFL Team/2019 All-AFL Team/2021 All-AFL Team) For the link to be added there would need to be articles to point to. Terasail[✉️] 20:19, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Terasail: The AFL only existed from 1960 to 1969; articles do exist for those years (e.g. 1967 All-AFL Team)--Harper J. Cole (talk) 20:37, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 17 November 2021[edit]

Hello, I am requesting to add the other three of six major CFL awards to the infobox options. Current:

| label35 = Team MOP
| data35 = {}

| label36 = Team MOC
| data36 = {}

| label37 = Team MOR
| data37 = {}

Requested change:

| label33 = Team MOP
| data33 = {}

| label34 = Team MODP
| data34 = {}

| label35 = Team MOC
| data35 = {}

| label36 = Team MOOL
| data36 = {}

| label37 = Team MOST
| data37 = {}

| label38 = Team MOR
| data38 = {}

This is the same order that the league uses (ref: CFL announces 2021 team award winners).

Offensive/defensive coordinators?[edit]

What is the need for the offensive and defensive coordinators to be listed in the infobox? The head coach should be enough. Can an admin please remove the "off_coach" and "def_coach" parameters from this template? – PeeJay 16:20, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you think it's not enough, but it is useful information especially for teams where the assistant is very prominent. Jdavi333 (talk) 17:50, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is no team in the entire league where the assistant coaches are prominent enough for them to be included in the infobox. If people want to know who the coordinators were for that season, there's usually a team staff list lower down the season article that they should look at. – PeeJay 21:42, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Eric Bieniemy, Jason Garrett, and Josh McDaniels are just the ones that come to mind immediately. And that is just offensive assistants. Dan Quinn, and Steve Spagnuolo are defensive assistants. Many assistant coaches are more well known than some of the head coaches. But all of that is completely irrelevant. The field is part of the template, so obviously people have thought and continue think it is noteworthy, present company excluded. Jdavi333 (talk) 18:37, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So you've managed to name five out of the 64 co-ordinators in the entire league and you think that supports the idea that coordinators are noteworthy enought to be included in the infobox? Bieniemy is the only one of those five who hasn't been an NFL head coach. Most NFL team season articles don't use these parameters because most people don't need them, so why should we provide a parameter that is only useful in 8% of situations this season? – PeeJay 17:58, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you read my entire comment, you would know that those were just examples, and that it wasn't my main argument. You are better off finding the editor who made the template and asking him why he put those parameters in, instead of needlessly complaining about it and trying to save the world. Jdavi333 (talk) 19:23, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, I assure you I read your entire comment. Anyway, you've said your peace, cheers. – PeeJay 23:46, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can we please delete these parameters now? They serve no useful purpose. – PeeJay 17:06, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the Edit template-protected template. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:41, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please replace NFLPrimaryStyle and NFLAltPrimaryStyle, which both are redirects, with their targets, Gridiron alt primary style and Gridiron alt primary style, respectively. Templates should generally avoid redirects, especially when they are widely used. HandsomeFella (talk) 15:34, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
