Objection[edit]

I strongly object to this template. There already two main templates: the Judaism and the Jews and Judaism templates. The former is more for religiously oriented material, and the latter for more secularly oriented material, because they are really two different spheres. Here this user has gone and mixed the two together, and it's not a match. What was wrong with the status quo? What's more, he's left the existing templates right where they are, only adding his template as well, creating a tremendous eyesore (despite the fact that his template comes up hidden, it's begging to be looked at. And when the user looks at it, he sees ... much of the info already posted on the original template already on the top part of the page! I think this template warrants serious discussion and reaching of consensus before it's posted on all the Judaism pages, as Yahel Guhan (talk · contribs) appears set to do. Some of these sections are just disturbing.

Philosophy[edit]

I see Principles of faith · Chosen people · Eschatology · Ethics · Halakha, which are all important points in Judaism, but then I see Holocaust theology. There is no Holocaust in Judaism, it is not an essential point. And if we were to consider including it anyway, perhaps Philosophy on the effects of the destruction of the Temple and the works of Josephus should also be included.

Religious texts[edit]

First there's Tanakh (Torah · Nevi'im · Ketuvim) and Chumash, a bit redundant if you ask me. Then I also see a nice list of Arba'ah Turim · Mishneh Torah · Talmud · Tosefta · Midrash · Shulchan Aruch, but then there's Kuzari. What is so prominent about the Kuzari? It's not one of the cornerstones of religious texts like the other ones, if we include that, where's the Moreh Nevuchim and other works? Then there's Piyyut. Why should Piyyutim be counted here? It's not religious texts so much as cultural texts. Lastly, I see Mishnah Berurah, which is obviously a very popular Halacha series today, but where's the Aruch HaShulchan? The Kaf HaChayim? The Halacha Berura?

Jewish leadership[edit]

Abraham · Isaac · Jacob · Sarah · Rebecca · Rachel · Leah, I don't recall these to be leaders of the Jewish people, they're the beginning of Judaism, I think they need to be in their own topic. Then there's Moses · Deborah · Ruth · David · Solomon · Elijah · Hillel . I can't see the logic in this. Moshe to Deborah? No Aaron? No Joshua? No Samuel? Then there's Ruth... since when was she a leader? Please, put on Boaz and Yishai if anything. Then of course, from Eliyahu straight to Hillel? Chizkiyahu, Mordechai & Esther, Ezra, Shimon HaTzadik don't even exist? Then Judah haNasi · Saadia Gaon, wow, a jump from the end of Ta'naim to end of Geonim, the Amorayim don't deserve to be mentioned apparently. And surely not great Ta'naim such as Gamliel, Eliezer, Akiva, and Shimon Bar Yohai. Rambam · Nahmanides, hello style conflict. Maybe it should be Maimonides · Ramban instead. Baal Shem Tov · Shneur Zalman of Liadi · Vilna Gaon · Leopold Zunz · Israel Jacobson · Abraham Geiger · Ovadia Yosef · Moshe Feinstein · Elazar Shach · Menachem Schneerson, this list just seems so selective. Am I the only one who noticed how the Ben Ish Hai greatly affected Sefardic Jewry? And why is this reflecting Chabad and not other Hassidim?

Aleinu · Amidah · Four Species · Gartel · Hallel · Havdalah · Kaddish · Kittel · Kol Nidre · Ma Tovu · Menorah (Hanukiah) · Mezuzah · Prayer · Sefer Torah · Services · Shema Yisrael · Shofar · Tallit · Tefillin · Tzitzit · Yad · Yarmulke Wow, just wow. I never imagined that Aleinu would be on the same list as Menorah. Why are prayers, and religious items on the same list? And Havdalah but no Kiddus? That goes over real well with me.
