Havana Moon is concert film by the Rolling Stones that was filmed on 25 March 2016 in Havana, Cuba of a free outdoor concert put on by the band, which was attended by an estimated 500 thousand concert-goers.[1][2] The concert marked the first time a foreign rock band had ever performed in Cuba.[1][3][4] On 11 November 2016 the film was released on DVD, Blu-Ray, DVD+2CD, DVD+3LP, Digital Video and Digital Audio.[1]
Reception
The film received critical acclaim from publications such as New York Times, The Guardian, and Daily Telegraph.[1] The New York Times stated that "The Rolling Stones gave a stunning performance".[4]The Guardian remarked that the show was "spectacular and historic"[5] with the Express sharing a similar viewpoint calling it a "historic" show.[6] The concert took place just days after (former) President Barack Obama visited Cuba,[4] marking the first time a sitting United States president has visited the country in 88 years.[7][8]
Potential Delay
Pope Francis attempted to delay the performance, asking that the band play on a late date due to it being scheduled to take place on Good Friday. The Vatican also suggested that the band start at midnight that night to avoid the holy day.[9] However, the Stones rejected the Pope's request, opting to play the concert on the scheduled date of 25 March 2016.[9][10]
