A time bar is an arrow used to depict a specific period of time. A single date within this period can be associated with a certain event and the distance between two dates with an interval, like an epoch.
A time bar is usually divided into intervals that form a scale, but it should at least have categories. Additional applications are possible: For example, a time bar may be used to visualise an author's backward time references and his outlook on the future.
