From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am not usually one who talks about himself online, which is why it's taken me so long to start a User Page. However, perhaps the time is now right. Despite not having a User Page, I have been contributing to Wikipedia since late 2006.

I have always lived in Melbourne, Australia. My interests are listed below and, as you'll see, I have made Wikipedia entries in some but not all of these categories:

  • Lecturing at various Melbourne U3As;
  • Collecting vintage 78 RPM recordings, particularly early acoustic recordings, with an emphasis on Australian vocalists;
  • Collecting newspapers - first editions and historical headlines;
  • Collecting books;
  • Australian history;
  • History of the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn (I am editor of the Newsletter of the Hawthorn Historical Society);
  • Australian railways, particularly the way railways operate - historical and contemporary;
  • Collecting railway timetables;
  • Australian broadcasting, particularly its history;
  • Comparative religion;
  • Postage stamps;
  • Writing - mainly factual, although I do have a couple of unpublished novels.

Names used by Wikipedia contributors[edit]

It intrigues me that when people write a book or an article for a magazine, approximately 90% of people use their real name. However, when people make contributions to Wikipedia the figures are somewhat reversed and approximately 90% of these contributors use a nom-de-plume. Why? Why, I ask again?

I have nothing to hide, which is why all my Wikipedia contributions are signed with my real name!

The following pages have been originated by me over the years and, in most cases, I have continued to contribute:

Wikipedia Pages to which I have contributed[edit]

Over the last 18 years, I have made many contributions to many pages, on a diverse range of subjects. However, the following list is of pages to which I consider I have made major contributions:
