Resolution of Respect and Condolence[edit]

Following Resolution of Respect and Condolence was passed by the Board of Directors:

“We, the Members of the Board of Directors of JK Paper Ltd. express our profound grief and sorrow on the sad demise of Shri Hari Shankarji Singhania, on Friday, 22nd February 2013, at the age of 80 years at New Delhi.

Shri Hari Shankarji was President of JK Organisation, and Chairman of the Company. He was associated with the Group’s paper business for over 50 years. Under his leadership, a modern integrated pulp and paper mill, JK Paper Mills was established with a capacity of 18,000 t.p.a at Rayagada, Orissa in 1962. Subsequently in 1992, another integrated pulp and paper company “The Central Pulp Mills Ltd” at Songadh, Gujarat was acquired.

Over the years, both units expanded their capacities in high quality writing, printing and branded copier papers and were consolidated into JK Paper Limited in 2001. Under his stewardship, the Company diversified into coated paper and highend virgin packaging boards.

The ongoing expansion project of the Company at Unit JKPM, Orissa was started by him which consists of India’s most modern state-of-art pulp and paper mill. On commissioning of this, the expanded capacity of the Company will consist of 4.55 lac tonnes per annum, which will enable the Company to retain its leadership position in the Office Paper segment.

He not only provided vision to the Paper Industry in India but also worked hard for its development and growth. He was President of IPMA in 1976 and Chairman of Development Council for Pulp, Paper and Allied Industries in 1995. His continuous insistence on quality of products and delivery of services to customers made JK Paper a brand to reckon in India. He was conferred prestigious “2008 Paper Industry International Hall of Fame Award” by the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame Inc, USA for his contribution towards development of Paper Industry in India and his commitment for social welfare.

Shri Hari Shankarji who learnt ropes of business under his illustrious father late Lala Lakshmipatji, was actively involved with J.K. Organisation since 1951, from the young age of 18 years, and held several positions, before he assumed the Chairmanship of various J.K. Group Companies.

The Group under his dynamic leadership, established various industries in diversified fields. He also set up several institutions in the fields of research, education and healthcare. He was a doyen of Indian Industry, an Institution builder, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Educationist, Welfare Activist and a Visionary par excellence.

He took keen interest in ensuring that areas around industrial plants, in particular most of them being in backward areas, are developed for overall growth of society at large.

Shri Hari Shankarji Singhania contributed immensely in the growth of industrialisation and economic development of India. In recognition, the President of India conferred upon him with the prestigious ‘Padma Bhushan’ award in 2003. In 2005, he was awarded one of the highest Swedish awards — Royal Order of the Polar Star — by the King of Sweden for his contribution to the development of Indo—Swedish business relations.

He led various Industry Chambers and Councils in India and abroad – Bharat Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), ASSOCHAM etc. He was the second Indian to serve as the President of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris, during 1993 & 94. He was involved with Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Taipei. He was the only Indian to be nominated on the Board of Atlas Copco, Sweden. He also had the distinction of being the first Indian to serve on the Board of Commonwealth Development Corporation.

We, the Members of the Board of Directors of JK Paper Limited pay our respectful homage and tribute to this extraordinary human being, a great leader, an iconic industrialist and a leading statesman and convey our profound sympathy and sincere condolence to the family members of late Shri Hari Shankarji Singhania in their bereavement and pray to God Almighty to let his soul rest in peace.”
