Lloyd’s parents were James Moses (1873-1960) and Alice (Shelden) Moses ( 1876-1939)of Fairfax, South Dakota. Alice Shelden was of Sioux heritage. Moses attended White Thunder Indian Day School in Mellette County and Colome High School, in Colome, South Dakota. His childhood included many of challenges typical of the pioneer years including hard work on the family cattle ranch, drought, snake bite, family illness, and intermittent school attendance. These hardships helped prepare Lloyd Moses for his 33 years military service.
